I moved some of my sweet pepper plants into my conservatory because although I had loads of green peppers, only one had turned a little bit red. This morning when I went into the conservatory to water them I discovered my first whole red pepper :j :j :j0

Not a discovery, more a realisation...that 4 courgette plants produce way too many courgettes for 2 people! But I'll know for next year.
And having taken advice from a thread on here, I replanted my chilli pepper plants into bigger pots (well a bucket actually) and I now have at least 6 green chillies on there - hurray! (I've forgotten what type they are though, but I think they're jalapeno)It doesn't hurt to be optimistic....you can always cry later.
You don't get if you don't ask!0 -
iaian's mum - Know what you mean about courgettes. I only meant to plant two this year but all four seeds germinated and I couldn't bear to throw them away so .................
I don't know whether to smile or cry at the number of mini cucumbers I've grown from 4 plants in a sunny border. Every day I seem to go out and pick a couple of new ones which seem to have grown from nothing in the night. We're all cucumbered out in this house now.0 -
Picked the first two sweetcorn today. They were not very big, poor soil they are in and lack of watering, but the kids said they were lovely. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

Pulled some parsnips today...there are loads still in the raised bed but i needed to make a clear area around the brussles sprouts as they were getting dwarfed by the parsnip foliage. I've peeled them and cut them and par boiled them and chilled them and frozen them this evening. Phew!
I also harvested my first 5 tomatoes...2 tiny ones and 3 slightly larger...the tiny ones were incredibly sweet and yummy. I also harvested the carrots from my square foot planted bed and also a large patty pan....edited to add...and i harvested 2 handsful of french beans and mangetout.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Having exactly the same problem so I know what you mean - this is my first parsnip experience so I was shocked by how much greenery there is. Think I might do what you have but is it the right time to harvest them?0 -
Well, saw yesterday so not quite today but I have a small cast of bees in a hive in my garden and added some food yesterday and got a good look at them. they looked awesome and did make me smile. blogged about them here today with some photos. Bees really are beautiful take a look. click here0

I'm smiling because I've just picked the last courgette which is actually a big relief.
Why is it that the first courgette of the season is a magical experience. The last courgette feels like the completion of a long term prison sentence !0 -
cbj02 - the bees look awesome, well done!Trying to jump back onto the moneysaving wagon .... :cool:0
