A wry smile today.
I no longer have a pond - after removing the liner and leaving a 10'x5'x5' hole in the ground for the last eighteen months, it is now filled to 9" from the top (leaving this for topsoil/compost/cardboard etc). It was filled with the spoil from the footings for living room extention.
After last night's rain I now have a moatThe joys of clay soil.

Just had a few days at our caravan and yesterday came across an apple tree growing in the hedgerow not far from "base". How had I missed it before! Fairly small apples but I picked a carrier bag full which will go nicely with the other "free food" I have recently been picking - bilberries, blackberries and rowanberries - to make jams, pies and chutney. Now awaiting the elderberries and sloes ripening and the "secret" pear tree I know about! My store cupboard will soon be full again!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

After picking ahandful of jucy ripe red tomatoes, I was very excited to see that my first chilli pepppers are turning red (hurrah I thought it would never happen)! They might only be small, but its a step in the right direction!0

My OH has just made some delicious Sweet/Sour Mexican Salsa from our ripe peppers and chillis, and also some Sweet chilli sauce which will add a zing to our winter menus.
And I watched an interesting spat in the garden between a black & white spotted woodpecker and a squirrel who were both fighting for access to the same peanut cage. The woodpecker won. He had a very sharp beak and wasn't afraid to use it.0 -
The other day when brambling I found an apple tree so ended up with about 3lb of apples too - now just need to decide what to make with them0

Not content with experimenting making Mexican Salsa and Chilli Sauce, my OH, bored by being shut indoors by the non stop rain, decided he would try his hand at making bread. He has never made a loaf of bread in his life before but by the end of the morning he had produced one wholemeal malted loaf and one white loaf - both better than many commercial loaves we have bought in the past. I'm really proud of him.0

A momentous day - for the first time ever I have grown carrots that have survived to being eaten by us!
Earlier in the year I got DH to get the very old iron water tank down from the loft and have grown my carrots in there and it has worked! Position could be improved upon due to lack of rain because of an over hanging tree but I'll definitely being doing it again. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
After what seemed forever waiting for runner beans we now have some - really huge they are............lol:rotfl:I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Whilst rummaging around for runners in my strawberry tubs I came across 3 juicy strawberries - I thought they had finished fruiting so this was a little bonus!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
