There's some overgrown waste ground behind my house, covered in brambles (free blackberries) and also cherry, apple and pear trees.
Picked 4lbs of cherries this afternoon, we've eaten some with ice cream, some will be turned into apple and cherry crumbles and the rest are in the freezer :j
By next week there should be as many again ripe so they'll be cherry jam!Sealed Pot #418 ('09 £414.12) ('10 £550.90) ('11 £440.60)0 -

We were lucky enough to come across some pear trees growing wild last year on one of our trecks from our caravan. We filled our rucksack with them and, on coming back home again, I searched the net for ways of using them. I came up with Pear and Lemon Jam - it was delicious! You can be sure come September, when the pears are ripe, we shall be off on the same walk again! I love foraging! If only we came across cherry trees like you!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
What made me smile today was giving away the last of my spare capiscum pepper plants that i have been giving away through freegle this week :-)
Everyone has been so grateful. If anyone has any surplus plants that they don;t know what to do with or don'; have the space for, i think it might be worth thinking about giving freegle or freecycle a go...Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Katholicos, I've done this too. After deciding to try and grow more than just tomatoes I sowed loads of different things and was overwhelmed by the germination rate, far too much for my little plot. So far i've freecycled tomatoes, courgettes, cucumbers, basil, sage, thyme, marjoram and leeks. In return i've recieved butternut squash, sprouts and a water lily. I've also met and stayed in touch with some fellow gardeners. Todays smile is a flower on one of my pumpkin plantsSometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)
It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0 -
Since we started putting Nyger seeds in a hanger we have a pair of goldfinch enjoying them everyday. Then, a new one came. Goldfinch are so colourful but the new one only had the bright colours on it's wings. I assumed it was their baby sitting on a pine waiting to be fed. Wrong! The two regulars ignore it so I now think it is some sort of crossmatch. Is this possible?. Then, a pidgeon started doing a love dance on a fence where another one was just taking in the evening sun. This made me laugh.0
