Todays smile maker.... The look on my 15yr old ds face when he went to get his new bright yellow t shirt off the line and found it covered in the same little black beetles that are all over my cougettes, absolutely priceless :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Sometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. The ladybirds have done their job and the black aphids seem to be under control for the time being. The green ones seem to have gone as quickly as they arrived.
Soul19 I'm at the same stage with about 2 handfulls of french beans everyday and at least 1 courgette every 2 days. It's nice to go and pull a carrot whenever I want aswell.0 -
A nice tub of new potatoes was yesterdays smile clincher. They tasted absolutely superb too!0

My water lily has flowered at last - I'm a very happy bunny.
I bought it off ebay last year, tended it all summer, pulled it up and kept in frost free and moist all winter, then put it back in the spring. Since then lots of mozzie larva and leaves and buggar all else. In sheer desperation I was contemplating buying a plastic flower to put in (it's a container with nothing else in except an oxygenator), when as if by magic.............it's a blooming miracle. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Me and my daughter just ate a bowl of fresh picked home grown strawberries....they were delicious! They actually smelt like strawberries and tasted like strawberries....it might sond dim, but the ones i have bought in the shop after they have been flown half the way around the world just don't seem to taste or smell of anything in particular. Can't beat home grown, and next year i am going to devote an entire raised bed to them....they're growing great in troughs at the moment but i want lots and lots and lots next year so that i can make jam to keep in store and also to give as gifts and also i want to eat some fresh, of course. They are putting out loads of runners so i am putting the ends of them in small pots and waiting for them to get established and then i'll snip the runners and multiply my strawb plants. I am so enjoying this growing thing....earlier in the year i thought nothing would grow and it was all quite a lot of work, but i am now sitting back and quite literally, reaping the rewards!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I have a magpie nest in my elder tree, the babies are at the scruffy teenage stage - very cute! This afternoon one of them was brave enough to go on to the grass and was chasing the Cabbage whites across the garden! Was very funny to watch
Just about to have my first Charlottes too, they look lovely and so pristine! Almost can't wait for dinner..."Live each day as if it were your last and garden as though you will live forever"
