Just back from 4 days at our caravan with 3 lb. 2oz. of Bilberries! Big, big smile!! They are usually ready for picking towards the end of July but we thought we would do a quick detour to the moors on our way back home and see how they were doing. Loads ready for picking! How lucky we had Tupper boxes with us! Can't wait till we go back on Sunday and can pick some more. We picked so many last summer that, despite lots of jam and pie making, we still have a few left in the freezer.

The first butterfly on my verbena. I planted it specifically for this and although it's been in flower for about a month now this is the first butterfly I've seen on it. I was beginning to think we had a lack of butterflies in the area, so I breathed a sigh of relief to see one sucking up the nectar!!

I have a lavender hedge in my front garden, it's about 20 feet long and this year is absolutely gorgeous, anyway I got home from work today and I lost count of how many bees were feasting on the lavender, there were dozens and dozens. Have taking a few cuttings for my back garden! Yet another smiley day :D

You can't beat attracting bees into your garden. I've just been training my pyracanthas along my back fence right next to a lavendar bush and a bee was literally feeding about 6 inches from my neck. Neither of us batted an eye lid and both just went about our business. If you don't disturb them they won't disturb you.

I love bees! They are so cute! Especially the bumbles that are nesting in my pergola! They are just so sweet! Oh to be that dedicated to a job! :rotfl:

The thing that made me smile today was the teeny tiny peppers and one teensy aubergine starting to poke about! Oh and getting some free wildlife attracting seeds in the post!

Yeah, they are absolutely lovely, had loads again today. I am growing thyme in the herb pot next to my back door and when that was in bloom that attracted bees too. Next year I'm going to grow lots of bee friendly plants in my back garden (hopefully with the lavender cuttings I've taken too) - and will be able to put up the bee house I was given on my birthday a few weeks ago right in the middle of the flower bed on a post that I'll need to sink into the ground......happy days!

Todays smiles were brought about by discovering more baby chillis and baby peppers, night scented stocks sown about 6 - 8 weeks ago are starting to flower and more baby cucumbers :D

Going on holiday next week and although I can't wait to go now, I will sure miss my garden.

Today we watched Mr and Mrs Blackbird fly down, help themselves to the ripe dessert gooseberries and they ate loads!

I picked my first ever own grown blackcurrants this morning! I planted the bush (£1.50 from B & M) two years ago and it has been full of green berries for ages but, at last, they are changing colour! Great excitement!
