What did I discover yesterday - Finally after about 5 years, I found the greenfingered forum - been refreshing constantly ever since looking at the fantastic achievements. :j

Hubbie and I have always pottered (probably not very successfully) and every year I say I must be more determined about our veg growing but yet again I have left everything extremely late but we do have a few things growing and I am still potting up seeds - we have an abundance of certain veg seeds, so am taking the attitude of 'it's worth a go' - if they succeed fantastic, if not, I don't think we've lost that much.

We are in our third house now and have our smallest back garden so far - our last house we never really did anything with the garden until we were getting it smartened up to sell - although we do usually have success with spring onions in pots. So we are looking for all of the little spaces in the beds between flowers where we can plonk some veg - even if it's just 1 beetroot!

We do have a front garden but a bit nervous about planting veg out the front but think we might have to bite the bullet.

Anyway before I ramble on even more, my discovery for today - about 5 years ago, parents gave us to 2 raspberry plants - they have never done anything, anyway, today I have noticed a runner coming off them - so that is now immersed in a separate pot (despite hubbie trying to pull it out when I showed him), and I am now going to be watching over it very carefully in the hope it does something. :j

  • I'm new to this part of the boards, but today's smile provoking find was that my pepper seeds are sprouting - I've nevery been able to grow anything from seed except sunflowers! I also ate my first home grown strawberry.

Mine for today is my raspberry bush. I bought it two weeks ago from homebase and it had about eight raspberries on it. Now.... well I lost count at fourty! There are more buds coming up every day and it looks desperate to escape from it's pot. I will give it a bigger one next year!

I have never really liked raspberries from shops. I always thought they were very bitter but these little beauties are so different. I had the first one yesterday and it was AMAZING! Strawberries are also coming along well but know they will come into their own next year!

I can't believe that my garden is giving me so much joy! Even on a grey day like today all I'm thinking is.... Oooh maybe we will get some rain!

Hope you all have a great gardening weekend!

Sparrer.... what about making a hip height raised bed? You wouldn't have to bend down and you could get a lot in a space like that....the compost would cost a wee bit though but then only needs topping up the years after that!

A good idea wssla, but having (mentally) redesigned the bottom of the garden the area has now grown to 8 x 16' with 2 trees. I can sit in my deck chair and reach over to do pot gardening at leisure while being shaded by the trees. At least that's the plan!

The first flower on the sweet peas that I have grown from seed. In fact these were the first flowers that I have ever grown from seed, I then sowed some aqualeiga which are now planted out in the garden and I have high high hopes for them for next year.

Got the growing flowers (and veggies) from seed bug big time and now have lots of packets of seeds for loads of different flowers that I will start sowing later in the summer ready for next year.

Just a few years ago gardening to me was a chore (even though I liked to have a 'nice' garden) but now it's my sanctuary, the place I want to be all the time, and even last night when I got down on my hands and knees and weeded a highly overgrown and messy corner of the garden for 2 hours I was happier than I could have ever imagined :)
