Ordered Iphone, think I've made a mistake?

Hi there,

Have been reading through a lot of the threads on here, and now think I may have made a mistake :(

I have upgraded today to a 16Gb 3gs Iphone on O2, and it has been despatched and winging its way to me... I got the phone free, and £33 a month for 18 months.

However, looking through these threads I'm wondering if I should have gone with the HTC desire now :(:(:(:(

They offered this to me at £35 a month over £18 months. Should I change my mind or not?! what to do!

I basically use my mobile for texting, and the internet, and I love gadgety things... However I'm not really into listening to music, so would not use itunes or such like.. is it pointless me having an iphone????? HELP!!!

Yes of course buy the worse version of the desire........

Yes you should go with the desire, its commonly listed as the best phone out there, its only bad points against the iphone are music player/syncing(with itunes) and app store(android marketplace is catching up on app numbers and quality, it has more free apps at the moment too).

Its also better than the nexus with hard keys, more ram, htc sense ui(the theme), htc apps, better video playback resolution, better camera options, better virtual keypad and optical trackball. Some of this is down to taste but the general consensus ive seen so far is that these are all pluses over the nexus. Oh one downer is that new updates to android will be slower on the desire as they have to modify their sense ui.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

To be honest the mistake you've made is buying an iPhone 3GS a couple of weeks before the 4G is officially announced.

Perosnally I prefer the Desire to the 3GS but I wouldn't pay more for it than an iPhone given that you can get it much cheaper elsewhere.

if you do decide to change your mind you've got 7 days to send it back I believe.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • Desire all the way. Much better smartphone.

Agree with Bill, Iphones are good phones (this is coming from a huge android fan) but the mistake was not waiting for the new one to be officially announced, not necessarily to get it as the price to begin with will be astronomical but it will bring down the cost of the old one.

On the nexus v desire front. I chose the nexus, largely because of the one "downer" that hudson mentioned of it getting the updates quicker, that was a big deal for me. I had a Samsung galaxy first which they never updated and saw my friends with heros stuck on 1.5/1.6 for ages, hopefully this will get better with the desire but I didn't want to risk it again. I also didn't get on with Sense UI, just bloatware to me and I also preferred the trackball of the nexus.

If you upgraded over the telephone then the distance selling rules apply and you have I believe 14 days to cancel your contract, if you did the upgrade in the O2 shop then it may be tough luck.

Actually the DSR do not cover upgrades (depending on the wording of the contract) however some retailers/networks will honour a cancellation period.

DSR has never been 14 days either - it is seven working days.

You can synchronize itunes collection on your computer with the desire by using some apps.

The froyo 2.2 update is due for release for the desire on June 23 as per many internet magazine posts. So it should be even more quicker.

Techradar says new iPhone deals will be more competetive now due to market share wars hitting up. In usa now Android is outselling the iPhone. Top is still rim, then Android then iPhone as per sales figures in usa.

If you want an iPhone then wait till after the new iPhone is released soon as 3gs prices will then have to come down.

First Froyo may never reach some phones. Just because the OS makers releasae an upgrade there is no guarantee the phones vendors will push it out. Open source means the phones vendor may have tweaked the OS and unless they tweak an update it may never work on a phone.

In terms of numbers it's not really a fair comparison.

Apple make iPhones, and RIM Make blackberrys, but there are many vendors of Android phones out there, all with different capabilities. Not all Andrid phones are advanced touch screen models some are really basic phones.

Comparing them like this is like saying there are more Ford cars on the road, followed by all the Far Easter brands, then Vauxhall.
