Ordered Iphone, think I've made a mistake?

Yes, you appear to. I've worked in the design and manufacture of both mobile phones and memory devices and have seen a fair bit of market research for both.mrochester wrote: »Hmmmm, I'm not so sure. It's very easy to think that what you know is what everyone else knows.

You need better build quality to have a removable panel actually. But what you have stated isn't an advantage of fixed batteries. I'm not aware of any advantage. But replaceable batteries have many advantages and no downside.mrochester wrote: »Better build quality as you don't need a removable panel. How anyone can claim that iTunes is a benefit is beyond me it's an awful piece of software. perosnally I've never found it htat hard to drag and drop music to and from an MP3 player or phone. I can se ehow having it synch automatically is of some benefit, but iTunes really is horrible.
There's one area where Android is well ahead and that's in the way it synchs with the 'cloud'. Cloud computing is the way forward and Android is well ahead of iPhone OS in that respect.
Again, think about the user - is the average Joe going to know where and how to drag and drop content to their device? Syncing to the cloud is available on the iPhone via MobileMe, but you do have to pay for it. Google also has no way of automatically syncing with your Outlook contacts. Bizarrely, it can sync calendars, just not contacts.
For goodness sake are you suggesting that in the 21st century there are hordes of people who can't manage to drag and drop files? What do you think they do with USB Flash memory sticks? Who do you think is buying all those card readers so they can easily copy files from their memory cards?
Mobileme costs £60 a year I believe. Synching with gmail etc. is free. I did have to recently spend $5 though to increase my Picasa web album storage to 20GB.
Outlook contact synching isn't an issue for me as I only use gmail for personal stuff and my phone is purely a personal phone. I can see how it may be an issue for some people but it's not impossible to get your outlook contacts into gmail, just a bit fiddly. It's my problem, it's my problem

Main downside is careless users who force something into a hole that the card / battery should not go it, and despite putting shims and sliders and stops will not be happy till it's forced in and then wonder why it won't work.0 -

That vanishingly small minority of idiots* would surely have a similar problem with the iPhone's headphone socket. Are Apple going to remove those too?
*Is that who Apple are aiming their products at? No other phone, camera or DAP manufacturer seems to feel the need to 'protect' their products from their customers thus. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

To quote an old joke..
"I'm told there is a reason why male animals are prefered in testing as there is only one hole to insert the rectal thermometer...."
I suspect some of it is design led, apple kit look slinky as they have no flaps and clips, but some of it probably is idiot proofing.0 -
for the htc desire one can synch everything including calenders. this feature wasnt there in the nexus one and htc desire allows even that as it has exchange support natively on the desire for all these functions. You are mis informed about not being able to synch the desire for the calender. also for synching everything better, the htc website support section has a new update see http://www.htc.com/uk/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=312&act=sd&cat=all This newer synch option is better than the one that is preinstalled on the desire. hope people with desires and interested in this option find this useful.mrochester wrote: »Again, think about the user - is the average Joe going to know where and how to drag and drop content to their device? Application Upgrade - HTC Sync 2.0.33
HTC Sync™ lets you synchronize Outlook and Windows Address Book (Outlook Express), contacts and calendar events on your PC with your phone. It also lets you install third-party Android applications on the phone, and the Mobile Network sharing function as well.

i guess third party installation options for iphone will come in the next century or maybe not! Competition is better for innovation and customers rather than a closed system lining just one companys pockets.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -

Works both ways.
Apple is a closed system, the apps work without incident as everything is known. All apps have to conform to the rules and "play nicely"
Android is open so people can write what they like, normally this is not an issue, but if you get a clash, then it can be a pain to resolve. No-one oversees the apps so although app A may work fine and App B works fine running them together causes App C to crash for not reason. You just don't get that on Apple kit (computers and phones).0 -
But being a closed system means that Apple control everything so if you try and develop an app that competes with an inbuilt app from Apple they're unlikely to approve it thus restricting choice.
There are advatages and disadvantages to both approaches.
Personally I prefer the open Android approach, I don't have to get all my apps from one place, I can ust download them from the web if necessary and there's no restriction on the content of apps. I can unserstand why some people prefer the Apple approach though. It's my problem, it's my problem

There are dozens of apps which duplicate the iPhones functionality.0
