there is no need to buy dongles etc when you have the desire. for example you are travelling by car and you use the google navigation while driving. and your other half and kids want to access the net for browsing or playing games, you can do that with the desire without needing a dongle or Mifi device or portable router. The desire natively acts as a wifi hotspot and any other wifi capable device can use the internet connection on the desire for accessing the net. so all four people can use different wifi capable devices (including the ipod touch or wifi ipad!) and access the internet via the desire without needing separate internet dongles or Mifi device or portable router etc. just having the convenience of being able to do it all in one device is good even though you might not always use the device.

it can act as a phone, internet device, media player, camera, video camera, tethering device, wifi hotspot, blueetooth tethering device, portable wifi router, read and edit documents, metal detector, use google goggles (only available on android), voice search, voice activated typing, augmented reality browsers, copy paste options much much better than the iphone, browsing experience much faster than the iphone, screen better than the iphone, flash support present natively on the desire unlike with the nexus one (which needs the froyo update for this).

most of the apps that one needs can be found for free. i havent yet found the need to buy an app as the free ones are good enough for my needs for now.

the iphone has its good points but for me i find the desire better suited for my needs and a lot cheaper too.

There are dozens of apps which duplicate the iPhones functionality.

There may well be but if Apple want to they can block them. Remember they blocked Google Voice.

They also blocked Podcaster, the reason cited was

"since Podcaster assists in the distribution of podcasts, it duplicates the functionality of the Podcast section of iTunes"

Opera Mini was another app to be blocked for duplicating the functionality of Safari.

They also blocked cartoonist Mark Fiore's app because it ridiculed public figures, which is sort of the point of a cartoonist.

Personally I don't want a hardware vendor censoring what apps I can use.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

I have a HTC desire and it's brilliant. The best phone I've had.

My girlfriend has an iPhone and that's fab too but I couldn't justify the price. I reckon you should have waited for the new iPhone due in the next few weeks.

You have to haggle when buying phones it's as simple as that. I managed to get the Desire for £50 upgrade £23/month for 18 months. 500minutes xnet, 300min same network, unlimited text, Unlimited internet. iPhone no where near as good a deal unless you've come to the end of an expensive contract already.

I searched the net for the best deals and then called the companies directly to haggle and give me more for my money.

i know about some on mse got better deals for 500mins, think they got it for 10-15£ a month. i got 18m contracts each for 1100xnet mins, 300 3-3mins, 1gb internet plus usual freebies with three like skype, wlm except spotify (which i got free for 1m only) for 20£ a month with handset cost of £50 for 1st handset and £150 for second handset (with 2000extra 3-3mins for 2nd handset because took two contracts). both on same price plans.

download speeds are constantly above 2800 to 5400kbps (depending on time of the day). have heard of others getting 7000kbps download speeds elsewhere on 3 network.

upload speeds of 500kbps to 1600+ kbps depending on the time of the day) but i live in a village half an hour from nearby cities.

Be interesting if that was resubmitted now Skype and Fring are able to do VoIP.

Again, RSS Player Podcast Client can do this. Can't see why Podcaster is Cydia only.

To be picky, Opera was never rejected, they just didn't think it would be accepted so they never submitted it. It's there now.

Can be annoying, but there are pros and cons. There's always jailbreaking if it's an issue.

T3 review says the desire beats the iPhone in almost every area apart from as a music player. See http://www.t3.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/htc-desire-review-the-expert-verdict-in-full.
