Their site www.city-link.co.uk has been down for the past 2 hours. All I can see about them is some very variable reviews in the Google search.

some of the reviews are awful, I can only comment on the service I have received in Northern Ireland and I can't fault them, The only time I did have a problem was trying to get a dell delivered to a different address (something dell doesn't allow) one of the employees delivered out of hours in there own car.

I would never go on an end customer recommendation thought, contact a company such as thedrinkshop and ask them.

Anyhoo just thought you would like the feedback

We are a wholesale supplier of Beaded handbags etc and anything over 2 KG in weight - that is, almost all our shipments - can't go by Royal Mail, far too expensive and/or not insured. So for Northern Ireland, we currently charge a fixed £21.25 which is actually subsidised by us (we pay the VAT on the carriage). This is just about the best contract rate we can get for 2 KG to 30 KG range.

So if anyone can contribute to this thread from the Trader's perpective (ie suggest better contract carriers), I'd like to hear from you!

What about Royal Mail Special Delivery Next day

Up to 10kg £18.50 insured for up to £500

Still not cheap but cheaper than the price you quoted above.

Up to 2Kg its only 7.40 - a big step then when you go over 2Kg - in your case 3KG would be cheaper to send as two separate parcels (2kg + 1Kg = 13.10 in total).
I used to have a signature with links to the League Tables for good/bad shipping charges for Northern Ireland. But I have since learnt that this is against site rules - so they are no longer here! PM me if you need them

OK declanh, your post caused me to review the more carefully and

    a) You are correct, under 10KG we could get a lower price. Unfortunately our Checkout can't handle weight calculations BUT...

    b) I then had a harder look at another of our contactor's price lists, and found a £15 option to NI for up to 30KG insured. I will be amending our Postal Terms to reflect this. Could even bring in more business!

Thanks and once again an MSE discussion brings tangible benefits!

If any sellers want an option to ship up to 30KG from England to NI for around £15 inc VAT & surcharges, no minimum parcels/week floor limit, pm me and I will pass on the email address (they have no website yet). We have used this co for a while now to ship wholesale handbags & gifts to Europe & Ireland, reliability is OK. This is really for smaller suppliers who can't benefit form a large distribution network.

This means no-one has an excuse to charge more than £15 for up ot 30KG!

But we still have to charge more then to England itself, so regrettably can't be on the Green List.
  • My eyes are tired so forgive me if this is on you list - I looked but didn't see it.

Standard charges apply to NI for orders under £30 (can be a bit steep, but low cost of goods does help balance out the cost)
Free Delivery applies to NI for orders over £30

Have ordered from them before and had items sent to mum in Scotland and me here in NI. Goods arrived fairly quickly (Delivery chap here said he hadn't done any previous deliveries for them, but I thought that may be because not too many folks realise the deliver to NI)

For those mentioning Citylink in my experience they are worse than Famac and I have had deliveries and collections from both many times.
  • Dabs have reduced the Northern Ireland surcharge from £10 to £4.
