It is an old computer and even though he got a brand spanking new one he refuses to use it. Ooh well it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks!
A large portion of your hard drive holds applications such as Windows and Microsoft Office. He won't need to back that up onto a USB drive, assuming he has the installation CDs for all applications.
A 1GB or 2GB USB drive should be enough for most people.0 -
THANKS for all the responses! Which usb 2GB flash drive pens are most reliable? I need 2, one for me and one for Dad!0

I got 2x Kingston U3 1GB.
1 from ebay | Just over £26 which at the time a few months ago was cheapest at £36.
1 from dvd.co.uk | for £17 roughly a month ago and it is now http://www.dvd.co.uk/product.asp?id=DTIU3-1GB
Kingston have 5 years warranty was my main reason, they are also well built as well. U3 lets you install programs onto your drive and take it wherever you go. For example I have firefox browser on there and use it at work. The benefits are all your private data is kept on the stickso no public machine will have the siites you visited

Price per Gb is interesting, would you pay 25 quid per Gb, instead of 15?
My latest purchase was a 1GB memory stick with fabulous England colours, for £11.90 delivered from www.svp.co.ukYou don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
Micro direct are selling a 4GB pendrive for £23.49 so compared to £12.99 for 1GB this has to be a better deal.
This isn't a pen drive as most of us know one - it uses/supports CF Type II, Compact Flash Card. And 1.0"HDD Micro Drives...:-)
Savastore is selling a 2GB flash drive for £18.99 (plus p and P) - you are unlikely to find a cheaper one around for a while:

I'm a bit puzzled about the VAT though. It looks as though only items that cost more than £18 incur any VAT. So I could order many items each costing £17.99 (in a single order), and pay no VAT. Is that correct?
(This seems at odds with somewhere like 7dayshop, where the £18 limit seems to apply 'per consignment').
I may be wrong but I think that mymemory is an offshoot of 7DayShop0 -

That is an arrogant assumption.
This online outlet - and lots of others - are regularly recommended on this and many other (usually computer related) forums; saving money is sensible and, which might come as a surprise to you, it's the main aim of the website you are now using...:-)0 -

If it is an old computer surely it is doubtful whether it even has an USB port?!0 -
Totally unrelated, how about looking into an online backup facility such as http://www.streamload.com/ for backing up essential items? If you have decent broadband then this shouldn't be a problem...0
