challanged seller on postage price - refunded !

recently challenged a seller on the postage price and now they have partially refunded - not sure how I feel about this really - postage price was clear in the listing , but didnt see it would be sent recorded - there was no need - it was a lot less than £41

still not sure how I feel about this though - I did mention in emails about postage that I would mark them accordingly if the price stamped on the packet didnt match the price they charged

is this extortion on my part ? - at least I gave them the option of rectifying it before I rated their DSR`s and if they had no qualms about it why partial refund ?

I`m thinking I might be a bit like an ex smoker though ( aren`t they the worst !? ) - I used to overcharge myself on postage ( just to shortchange Ebay , I thought the bidder would factor this into their top bid anyway ) but now send my items free or undercharged ( from advice gained from this forum )
As Martin says - please be nice - there is no such thing as a stupid question ! ;)

so you only take post into account and forget the packing then?

Personally, I do actually on charge post and try and recycle my packaging but not everyone does hence why the charge is for post and packing -

yes - I would agree it was FB extortion - you gave them little choice but to refund you the packaging charges!!

You challenged the charge, you got the refund so why don't you know how you feel about it?

Yes it is extortion imo , there is more to P&P than a stamp , for me to send stuff I got to wrap it bubblewrap, then an outer packaging , labels and printing a receipt , then I got to take it to a post office which is about 4 miles from my house, and all items go recorded delivery. So I charge the buyer for all that within my charges

I don't understand why my p&p DSR star is at 4.8 when my items are sent free!!!!! Can anyone explain that to me?

If your packaging isn't up to standard, that could be it. Another possibility is people who start out with a baseline of 3 or 4 stars, only going up to 5 if you REALLY impress them.

Yes, it is extortion. You know full well that the seller didn't want to risk getting negative feedback so you extorted money from them. You knew the postage AND PACKING cost when bidding, so it is just plain extortion when you demand money back from them.

I can understand why a buyer would think that recorded delivery is unnecessary - but totally understand why a seller uses it (and insists that the buyer pays for it).

Posts such as this are the reason I have pretty much given up selling on ebay - I'd rather give stuff away on freecycle, or take it to charity shops, than refund money to people who agreed to pay a certain amount for an item and then complain when they have actually cough up.

I've also pretty much given up buying on ebay because so many sellers now feel they have to send stuff recorded delivery that I'm either woken up by the postie or have to make a trip to collect my parcels.

Ebay used to be a fun way to buy or sell stuff at bargain prices (and occasionally get a rare item) - now it's just stressful.

I think you have a bloody cheek
yes you can mark down DSR's and message a seller after you receive an item if the postage is massively under or packaging quality poor
however who the hell are you to tell a seller that you feel you shouldnt pay for packaging?

I agree this is a cheek- Postage and Packaging. I was just buying new bags yesterday, now I am a small time household seller so don't need 100's of bags....last time I got a mixed lot of 50, working out at 10p per bag however this time I only need a certain size and less of them....as a result it is more like 10-15p per bag (perhaps I could get them cheaper if I spent ages looking but I don't have ages with a toddler!!). Clothes go fine in these bags (durable) but anything fragile (eg CD etc) I am also adding on bubble wrap, sellotape etc.
I agree excessive postage is a cheek but something has to be charged for packaging (be it in the P and P cost, or hidden in the overall price as some larger sellers might do!).
    End of rant :D.

I agree with every reply on here, you are quite unbelievable.

I would be interested in how you would mark my p&p DSR as there is no way on Gods earth you could ever find out how much I paid.

It is buyer's like you which keep this forum full of 'nightmare buyer' threads.
I did mention in emails about postage

    How many did you send?

I know p&p is a bone of contention with some people, but I think if you bid and buy, you accept both the price you paid and the p&p charge. As long as the seller sends the item on the contracted service, job done.

IMO extortion plain & simple. The postage was clear in the listings.
