what a twit i didnt know that that was possible ... i might speak to my hubby about that option ... yes i was told that they may pay a percentage of the amount but then in the next breath i was told or we might not pay anything ...
i feel so kicked in the teeth ...
but i am not going to be defeated by this i am going to get through it i am going to carry on being honest about everything ( i have nothing to hide at all) and i think i will be seeking my own independant advice on things ... i am gutted for our son as well ... we will now need to go and buy him a laptop he has said look dont worry about it ... but he needs a laptop for uni with him being dyslexic he needs all the help he can get so there you go another £1000 to add to the list ... right now i cant see a way forward but i know one is there ... i will find it soon i am sure0 -
Ok have had a meditation and calmed down a wee bit so that I can start to think straight ... Our debt even if everything is sorted has increased by £1000 ( sons laptop) now thankfully he isn't in a hurry but I will once everything is sorted take him to p.c world and get him a new one on interest free credit .. So ... Ok I have a wee while to pay it up and put the money by but I am trying to find £200 a month for the mil as it is I think I will need to find £120 or so a month for the laptop ... Now finding an extra £320 a month is gonna be really hard not impossible but it will put me under pressure ... Which right now I am trying to claw my way out of ... So I think I need to be more realistic ... I am not being hounded for the money fromeither son or mil so I need to make it fair on them but not too stressful on me ... Any advice?0

Elantan could your son get help via the DSA for a laptop if he is studying and has dyslexia?0

Hi keeping ... This is how he got it in the first place they gave him some money towards a laptop and between us all we got the rest for him .... I don't think they will pay out twice... Should I ask though do u think?0
-
No harm in asking, you will have a crime number and proof that the insurance won't pay for it, so its worth an ask?0

thanks keeping will speak to son and approach uni about this ...
right well today we need to get rid of the things in our house that dont belong to us and the things that are broken ... this might actually be kinda cathartic... i have had printers lying down stairs for five years that hubby is gonna fix one day ... well he aint fixed them they dont work ... so today they are going because i dont need anyone coming in here and saying to me it's not about the value (£0 ) it's about how much it would cost to replace and saying that looks like it would be £200 when in truth i wouldnt replace it because it is broken it hasnt been fixed and it is lying there taking up space ...
also have tonnes of our sons stuff here that we were keeping for him till he got his first ever real house (as opposed to private let) so he now has his real house yes he isnt ready for his stuff yet as he has soooooo much to do to it ... but that is not my problem no more ... i have kept it for him now for 2.5 years since he moved out and now i think it is time for it all to go ... it isnt much just stereo's etc but it all add's up to being not mine and i dont want this person to think that it is and add xxx amount onto the value of our stuff ..
so maybe this is going to be a good thing ... maybe this is going to be a chance for me to clear the rubbish outa the house and start afresh .. yes i did a big huge clear out last year took me weeks ... but i still kept sons stuff and added to that was my friends stuff that came to stay ... now it goes ... i messaged her and told her it has to go asking her what she wants done with it all but she said give it away so charity shop visiting will be happening also ...
i think it might be a good time for hubby and i to take stock of exactly what we have which is each other (and our son) and appreciate what is really important0 -
Very positive El, as you say, what is worthless in it's present state doesn't need to be included, but we all know what crafty weasels these insurance firms can be.
Is there anything of yours that you could ship out to MILs to help the situation?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
sorry for all the stress you've been going thoughm, but well done for taking positive action to clear your environment. It's probably a good idea as well with the loss adjustor coming for a visit0

Great post El, I am about start decluttering. I think you should get your own loss adjusters too, a second opinion could be helpful

you know a couple of people suggested that to me ... and i thought about it for a whole 20 seconds ... it wouldnt sit right with me ... i have done nothing wrong apart from not reading the small print (something i thought i didnt do anymore ) i was burgled i have lost thousands and i dont want to become something i am not ... so no the only thing that is leaving this house is the rubbish and the stuff that belongs to other people (except the t.v in the living room which belongs to a friend )
i dont have anything to hide and today i have got my let's get this !!!!!! sorted the right way head on ....
probably by the time i have given everyone their stuff back i will be left with nothing anyway lol0
