  • Hi Em.

I had only just dumped my one and only attempt at an internet date when I started work in the local pub. Earned some extra dosh, had drinks bought for me (seriously, like having a social life and getting paid for it!!) and then met a really lovely guy. Married him 5 years later....got paid AND got a bloke!! There is nothing finer than a pub!!

    Emmzi,

I'm doing the single thing again after the bloke I met on the Guardian site (aiming for intelligence) turned out to be less of a romantic, feisty latin loverboy, and slightly more of a chauvinistic, manipulative, angry control-freak. He is still referred to in my family as the 'Brazil Nut' (he was half Brazilian) on the rare occasion my brother chooses to discuss having to rescue me at 2.30 in the morning while the police waited to make sure the Nut didn't break the terms of the Harrassment Act warning he had just been given by attacking either of us. Ah, such heart-warming moments we shared.

Girl, kick back, have some fun as a single woman! I have rediscovered all my lovely friends, got my home and life the way I want it, and am totally comfortable in my own skin. Every time I go out with the girls, I get at least three offers of drinks or phone numbers, probably because I am obviously not on the hunt for a bloke. (BTW, I am not tall, blonde, thin or tanned. I am short, brunette, size 16 and pale as milk) Just enjoy having the whole bed to yourself for a change!

And for whatever he did to you, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest his boxers, and may his arms be too short to scratch.

    Thanks guys. (and gals)

Was meant to be going out for dinner but have sent mate away as I just need a good wallow and a cry again.

Blew the budget booking a flight to see my mates in London at the weekend. I do need to be somewhere else.

Stupidly, I'm also worrying if HE is ok. See, this is why I'm so easy to take advantage of...

Bless your heart Emmzi. You are clearly a very sweet & caring person for considering his feelings right now. I am not saying you should give up these traits...but for the moment honey you need to be tougher because the chances are he won't be giving you the same consideration......

It's heartbreaking I know, but think of yourself right now.

    Big hug.

If HE is ok? Good grief girl! He's presumably able to breathe air and thus far too "ok" if he's upset you like this :)

I can't help with the dating sites but is it really wise to get dating so soon after heartache? Give yourself time to get over whatever it is that he has done, have a laugh with the girls and then get yourself back into the dating world!

Take care of yourself! Good luck and be happy!

Thanks Kate, can't go on dates right now anyway as my mascara is going to run right into my drink.

I think I just need to know that I'm not a complete social leper where blokes are concerned...

  • I met my bf through a dating website (think it was about £15 a month) and it was the best thing I ever did.

Five 1/2 months later and we are very happily living together, have a cute puppy, and are very much in love. He is my soul mate, and I can't imagine life without him.

I was very wary of dating sites, and yes I came across plenty of idiots (who thankfully I didn't meet). But it was a positive experience for me, and the friend who recommended it to me, met her (now) husband through the very same site.

    Good luck in your search.
