Aaargh! DH rang me while I was getting changed from swimming to say that some woman has gone in the back of my ka while he was driving home. he says the bumper's ruined and one of the rear tyres has burst. He had a puncture last week and hasn't replaced the tyre yet (not for lack of trying, no tyre places in our town had the right tyre, it's on order at kwikfit) so he's waiting for the aa :(

I can't believe this has happened again, I was hit by a lorry last year in almost exactly the same way. That time they nearly wrote it off, as the repairs were nearly 2/3 of the car's "value". Got a nasty feeling I may be carhunting at the weekend :( poor little ka, it's my first car!

spent all morning on the phone to the insurers trying to sort out repairs etc. Don't see why it should be so difficult, we're obviously not at fault, DH was stopped at a red light, and the other driver admitted she was distracted by her satnav as the road system is new, didn't see him/the lights and just drove into him! Bumper ruined, back driver side lights smashed and wheel deformed. Hope there's no damage to the axle, or it will be v expensive to repair and they might write it off :(
Hire car being delivered tomorrow, DH having to WAH today and tomorrow as no public transport to his work is feasible, and my carshare's away so I need the other car!

    Oh no!

Accidents like that are so annoying - not your fault yet you're still left having to sort out the mess!

    Morning Diary :)
Not much to report today, waiting to hear from garage about collecting my car. Should hear from them by Friday lunchtime at the latest, so hoping they'll arrange to come and collect it tomorrow. I've arranged to WAH if necessary, so can stay home and wait for them. Really want to find out if it's going to be repaired or not, so we can sort our finances for a new car if needs be. :(

    Morning diary :)
Not much to report from the weekend, had a lovely lunch with my sister and her girls yesterday. Back flared up last night, almost no sleep and off sick again today as can barely stand. :(

Still waiting to hear about my car, they collected it on Thursday, so insurers should have engineer's report today.

Have heard from the insurers, my poor little ka has been written off :( just waiting for a call to see what they'll offer me for it, and then DH and I will have to decide how much we can spend on a replacement. Have seen a nice little Mazda 2 for about 3k, same age as my ka, but only 40k miles on the clock.

Off to the bupa hospital this afternoon to see the consultant about my back.

Thanks woo, no good news from the doc unfortunately, going for an mri scan next week to rule out a disc rupture, but he doesn't think it is that. If it's not down to a specific disc, it can only be sorted by improving core stability and waiting for it too heal itself. I nearly cried when he said that. He wouldn't even give me any drugs, as he said I need to feel when it hurts to avoid doing more damage.
So I guess I have a lot of swimming and pilates ahead of me, may be joining the gym after all!. He also asked about when I want to have kids as apparently pregnancy can help sort this sort of problem out! Dh's face was a picture when I told him that:rotfl:

Feeling a bit more positive now. :T Will wait until after scan next week and then ask consultant's advice on what sort of exercise will be best etc. I'm hoping he'll refer me to individual pilates sessions at the physio surgery I've been going to. I can claim it on my health insurance, and I think the 1-1 tuition will be the best start in building up my back stability. Will also supplement this with swimming and maybe pilates classes at the gym if he thinks this is appropriate. Maybe this will finally help me kick-start my weightloss goals as well...

DH and I had a long discussion about cars last night, and we've decided that we're going to have to use my bonus and a bit of credit card space to top up what we get for the Ka in write off value. I'm expecting around £2k for the Ka, and hopefully at least £1500 in my bonus after tax, so we're going to look at spending £4-5k on a car. We really need something reliable, that will last us 5-7 years. Also decided to make sure we get something with 5 doors and isofix fittings for carseats, so we don't *have* to buy a new car when we have a baby. Have seen several 05 polos with lowish mileage in that price bracket, so will start making test drive appointments for this weekend

Unfortunately my bonus isn't due until end of April and we can't do without 2 cars until then, so we'll have to move some money from our house deposit ISA, and I'll transfer the write off cheque, and my bonus when it appears to our general savings until the new ISA year.
