Everything crossed for your SIL Kel, so upsetting when a baby is lost, sister no 4 lost her second baby last year
she was devastated. Niece no 2 came along in January, but I know she still thinks about the baby that was lost.

Aargh! I'm in a quandry all of a sudden. The Chemistry team have just posted a vaccancy that I think I want to apply to. I used to work in Chemistry as a temp, and only moved to my current role in Feb 09 as there were no permanent jobs to be had in chemistry. Although the new role in Chemistry is fairly similar to my job, as we work closely, and often on the same projects, if I went back to chemistry, I'd be able to drop the aspects of my new role that I'm not so keen on. I was just thinking about revising my CV, and my best friend, who used to work here, but took a permanent role elsewhere, (for the same reasons I took this one!) has just emailed me and said she's thinking of applying for it. I haven't told her I'm thinking about it, and now I don't know if I should apply or not.
Worst of all, the deadline is next Thursday, and I'm away work from Friday lunchtime until Thursday morning (although I'll be travelling with my boss from Monday - Wednesday night), and I need to speak to my boss about it before I submit my application, since it's an internal vaccancy.
Although it's the same paygrade and has similar promotion prospects, I think the specific project that the role is being created from is really interesting, and it would challenge my chemistry brain in a way it hasn't been since I left my PhD.
What to do? :think:My head hurts from thinking about it.Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
Go for it!!!! If it's something you feel you will get more from then do it.
Awkward re best friend also going for it but she said she was only 'thinking' about applying, not def and if life you have to think of number one at times.
How you feeling about it now?0 -
Undecided! I've updated my cv to make it fit the job description, but I haven't spoken to my boss about it. I think the problem is that my friend is miserable at her current job, and they've had to take a paycut and pension contributions stopped due to recession, so I'd rather she got the job if she wants to apply got it, I'd love to work with her again.
But if she doesn't apply, I think I will, but i'll be short of time to speak to my boss about it, and I don't want to bring it up unless i'm definitely applying.Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -

Awww, you are a lovely friend :A x0 -
Hi Jules,
Sorry to hear about the job predicament with your friend! I agree with Choc - you sound very considerate! Unfortunately my advice is GO FOR IT! I think that sometimes we just have to put ourselves first, do you think she would not apply if you had said you were going to?
I would say tell her that you are going to apply so at least she knows but I think you have to chase your own happiness and wellbeing too, that said, I would understand if you decided not to.
Very happily married on 10th April 2013

I'm back! Had a hectic week, away camping at the weekend, and then up to Edinburgh for a conference on Monday. For some crazy reason (which was perfectly sensible at the time, volcanic ash!) we decided to drive to the conference instead of flying, so we drove back yesterday, setting off at 4. I got in at 10 to midnight, so am completely knackered today. roll on the weekend!
Nothing much to report, had a lovely weekend at the beach, managed not to get too sunburnt, just picked up a bit of colour (or my freckles are joining together to make one massive freckle....). Did turn out a bit more expensive than I'd planned, not feeling very MSE this month.Payday not for another 2 weeks, so will have to be extra frugal until then.
Conference also good, some interesting science, and managed a bit of networking. Definitely better than the conference in April where I came down with a terrible stomach bug halfway through the week and spent the rest of the time in my room! :eek:Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -

I decided not to go for it, as my friend has applied, and it's so similar to my current job that I'm not really missing out, if you see what I mean. I'm taking on more work in that area anyway, as one of their temps is leaving and I'm going to fill the gap.
I hope she gets it, her current job is really getting her downLittle monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160
