I don't think the Vet is needed at the moment, it will only stress mum out, but you could ask CPL about worming Mum.
I've taken in a couple of feral Mums and kittens and as Huskypup says the best way to tame them is to just sit and talk to them. I used to take a book and read to them for hours on end, I fed a good quality tinned food but always took a sachet or foil tray of 'posh' food when I was going to be sitting with them, so that they would look forward to seeing me. Getting Mum to accept hand feeding, then touching and eventually stroking is a very slow process but so very worth it for the day Mum eventually decides you are not horrible and actually looks happy to be in your company.
Good luck with your new family OP - and if you cant take photos without disturbing them we would love to coo over them! Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

Good job credit_crunch!!
btw,post #12 reported as spam.0 -
thanks everyone! its amazing what info mse seems to have in general!
my dad insists she isnt wild - just lost/homeless/abandoned but i gues we will never really know!
when i was feeding her this afternoon i notice some slight scars on her body so maybe she had been fighting b4 we got her - is this normal? there is 1 on top of her head, and a very small one on her side
also how soon can she get pregnant again? how soon can she & the kittens be neutered?
when will the kittens open their eyes?
any worming meds i can put with her foods just to be on the safe side?
will the vets give free advice over the phone?
i really must try and get to the library soon to pick up some books & more info!
also we feed her 3 times a day - a pouch of whiskas each time with a handful of dry food over the top - is this enough? she always seems to wolf this down! we do think this is her 1st litter cuz she is so small herself!
finally - the 2 that i will be taking - i work full time so i would like them to be more outdoor cats - at what stage can i start to put them outside etc - i know this depends on when they are neutered etc but a rough idea would be good! i have a huge outside store with a catflap (from previous owners) where they will hopefully stay - dont get me wrong they will be in the house when im at home but i dont know that i want them to have the run of the house when im not in
thanks again to all you very helpful people xo0 -

will try to get pics up over the next few days! they are just adorable but a bit boring at the mo! although 2 of them were lying over the top of each other 2day and one moved so they both did mini back flips somehow!
cant wait to see their little personalities come through!0 -
Good on you for looking after these little ones. I know when my friends cat had kittens she ate loads because she was feeding the kittens so its possible that why she is so hungry.
Neutering depends on your vet, our vet waits until 6 months for males and I know from experience by then they will be "active" (my little man was trying to mate with the other slightly older kitten at 5 and a half months I was horrified but pmsl when he tried it on with the older almost 3 times his size cat). Some will do it as soon as 12 weeks.
The older kitten I mentioned was feral though and he has come along wonderfully, I found sitting in the same room and just reading got him used to me or taking phone calls on my bed when he was under it so he got used to my voice. I'm sure the kittens will be fine as just seeing you everyday and hearing your voice will get them slightly used to big scary noisy humans. With Baxter the battle was halfway won as when he associated me with his dinner and dreamies and would allow a quick pat on the head as long as I had a plate of food or dreamies in my hand. He has progressed to to letting me pet his full body and sleeping curled up next to me.0 -
credit_crunch,
You mention the library, the's a couple of books I have out of Donaghadee Library at the moment,
"If your cat could talk" by Dr Bruce Fogle
"The Natural Cat" by Helga Hoffman PhD
Both are very good,if you want to request them from your local library,I'll return them after towards the end of next week so you can get them.

also how soon can she get pregnant again? how soon can she & the kittens be neutered? I think she can come back on heat as soon as the kittens are weaned. My Kits were speyed at 16 weeks.
when will the kittens open their eyes? about 10 days old
any worming meds i can put with her foods just to be on the safe side? Panacur, best check with the Vet though.
will the vets give free advice over the phone? If you explian the situation I would hope that a Vet would give some general advice.

also we feed her 3 times a day - a pouch of whiskas each time with a handful of dry food over the top - is this enough? she always seems to wolf this down! we do think this is her 1st litter cuz she is so small herself! 3 pouches doesn't sound much for a feeding mum (my lot would eat double that!) Could you leave more dry food down so she can help herself? Although you may need to be careful if she is outside as you don't want to attract rats or other cats.
finally - the 2 that i will be taking - i work full time so i would like them to be more outdoor cats - at what stage can i start to put them outside etc - i know this depends on when they are neutered etc but a rough idea would be good! i have a huge outside store with a catflap (from previous owners) where they will hopefully stay - dont get me wrong they will be in the house when im at home but i dont know that i want them to have the run of the house when im not in The outside store sounds great, my kittens were outside with me from the age of about 14 weeks, just for 10 mis or so a couple of times a day. I unblocked the cat flap when they were about 4 and a half months old and had been speyed. One went out straight away the other took months to learn how the cat flap worked!
thanks again to all you very helpful people xo
What are you going to call them? Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

Can I ask why?
I hate it if mine are out when I have to leave for work & I worry something might happen to them.
I only like them out when I am home & during day light.0 -
Thanks merv- wonder will the library be open 2moro or Monday?sure il check their website soon. MrsE im not sure why I font want them in the house! I've never had cats and don't fancy them being in my bed or peeing/pooing everywhere but I suppose by tge time they are ready to go outside they should be house trained!heads just a bid of a muddle at the mo!I kinda want them outside so they can do what they want rather than being couped up in the house all day.
I suppose I won't really know for sure until we get them and see how we get on!0
