    Hello! viktory here :D

Righto, lets clear something up. I was on benefits, I have never hidden that fact. I, however, got off my !!!!!!, got some qualifications and got a (well actually several) jobs to support myself and my family, along with DH.

The timeline in my post is not exact. As I said on the other thread it could so easily have been written the other way round. I could have said "I went to college, met my DH etc, etc" The exact timeline is irrelevant. But this is boring and I am not sure why BS brought it up again (like regurgitated
curry). The points I have made on this thread stand.

I had two children and stopped after two because to have any more would have caused financial hardship to the ones I already had. That and the fact that that I am not naturally maternal and wanted some time and money to myself (much like the OP's sister!).

I am annoyed with the OP is because she is relying on tax credits to support her ever growing family when they clearly do not have enough money to support them. The OP herself has no concern over how she will clothe and feed the children. That is irresponsible.

The question at the start was simply, should the cost of children affect the number of children a person has? The answer, to a normal person, would be yes.

NB Thanks to those that have understood my comments :D
  • Reading this thread has made me so angry

My husband and I have waited and saved until now (we've both just turned 30) to make sure that when we have kids that we don't need to reply on goverment handouts even though we have both paid into the system for 15 years each!

For the posters on here that think it's OK as someone else is footing the bill for you to stay at home to look after your kids should take a long hard look at yourselves. It seems that because we have chosen to wait and will have to continue to work once we have children to upkeep our standard of living that we are the bad ones as we go off to work everyday.

Just thank your lucky stars that we are out working so you can stay at home and play happy familes
Why don't you thank your lucky stars you are able to work.

If your husband earns £13k a year then surely it doesn't balance out that you should have a flock of children and expect your sister and the rest of the sensible taxpayers to pay for you to sit at home and extend your brood. If you can't afford to pay for your own children's upbringing then why the hell should the rest of us pay for it?

Tax credits are paid to any parent earning under about £55k.

Child benefit is paid to every parent.

Do you suggest we abolish all benefits for parents?

Yes, we would manange without the tax credits, but as I said in my previous post they mean we don't have to struggle as much as we would have. I would probably have to work, but the tax credits system is set up to give women a choice. I think this is a good thing, for children and society as a whole.

If you don't like it take it up with your MP. I am only claiming what I am entitled to. Nothing more, nothing less.

Why? What I earnt would be lost in the tax credit I lose. I am not putting my children in childcare for no good reason.

  • You don't need to. There is evening/weekend work.

My husband often works evenings and weekends, like most people.
  • Then work around his hours.

He works different shifts. What am I supposed to do? His shifts change very 2 weeks. What kind of job can I do where I come and go as I please?
