black-saturn wrote:As far as i can see no one in this thread said they were having children just to get more money.helpafriend wrote:We have 2 now and are trying for another. My husband only earns £13k, but we get tax credits and get by. I don’t worry too much about how we are going to feed and clothe them as my tax credits go up every time we have a baby.
Black-saturn, I think this part of the quote by helpafriend is the part most of us have a problem with. Although she's not saying she's having more children to get more money, she is stating that she is relying and knows full well that it is the TC which will be supporting any more children.
Lotta"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, how big my house was, or what kind of car I drove. But the world may be a little better, because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
Bargin rzl i am so sorry my `not at all was not posted at you` it was at the comment of `should anyone earning under 55k not have kids`

Not actually right. If you had bothered to read the other thread you would know that.
The point here is that the OP said that she has no concern as to how she feeds or clothes her brood as the tax payer will pay for it.
That is thoughtless and irresponsible.0 -

I can understand why you want lots of kids - i want kids. I want 2 but practically more than that i feel would cost too much.
I do think it's important to be able to afford them though. And if we win the lottery or hubby gets an amzingly well paid job we might have more. But i don't want to struggle to feed and clothe 4 kids when if i only had 2 they'd have much easier and possible happier lives.
If you want lots of kids good for you - but you should make sure you can afford them without necessarily relying on benefits too much.
For a start you never know when the government will change and benefits might decrease. How would you manage then?
It's just that you love children obviously, but maybe your sister isn't quite as enthusiastic and is perfectly happy with her lot. But you don't seem to understand why anyone would feel this way - just because you don't
Yes! Yes! Yes! Well said. :T0 -

cannyscot wrote:The world has gone mad nowadays the reason people cut down on the number of children is so that they can have more things and more designer clothes for their children etc etc If we all took a chill pill and were nicer to each other -which lots of parts of this forum usually are -then none of this would matter.
No, the reason people have fewer children these days is because of contraception.
A nice idea, Cannyscot but it's not nice of people to abuse a system that was set up to protect the vulnerable.0 -

I'm definitely not planning a baby just yet-more within the next 2 years or so if this relationship goes that far,but if I got pregnant accidentally I certainly wouldn't abort it just because I couldn't afford it.Life means more to me than money.
But that doesn't mean your partner couldn't, does it?0
