Great peppa pig cake:T
Here is another cosmetic bag and make up cake I made for a friends sister's 50th today. My friend text me earlier to say how much her sister loved it and that there was "no way" it was getting cut:rotfl:Feb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)

Anyone thought of making your Christmas cake yet? Gonna start mine next month so it will be lovely amd moist and bozzy by Christmas :rotfl:
Gonna have a go at making some sugarpaste models to go on top last year I did stars and painted them silver and red and stuck them on the top so I have been watchin good old you tube watchin a lady making a Christmas tree. She used sugarpaste mixed with tylo, does any one know what this is and why she mixed it.

Hi all, hope you don't mind an enthusiastic novice joining in. I'm going to try and do my own special cake for my birthday this year and just have a couple of questions.
1. When a cake is covered with fondant (a normal sponge cake) how long will it keep? I've got quite a bit of fiddly decoration to do and I'd be doing it in my evenings.
2. Can you buy an edible laquer to make it shiny or is there a little tip I can use?

I've been thinking about making christmas cakes but haven't done anything yet:D
I use the equivalent to tylo(USA make I think) which is CMC powder here. It costs about £2 ish for a small tub in my local sugarcraft shop. It's mixed with sugarpaste to make it easier to work with and less sticky. It also dries quicker and dries harder than sugarpaste. HTHFeb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)

I'm no expert but I will try to help;)
1. Once a sponge cake is covered they can be kept quite a while. I made my grandson a christening cake a couple of weeks ago and they've just cut into the top tier and they said it was lovely and fresh still.It might depend on the cake recipe your using though. I would recommend decorating no more than 3 days before your birthday though just in case;)
2. I use confectioners glaze for small decorations and models to give them a sheen but I wouldn't but it on the cake itself which is going to be eaten. It is edible but I wouldn't imagine it would be that nice:p To give cakes a sheen I spray them with a lustre spray or highlight areas with lustre dust. Thank you, I'm not sure if I've a local sugarcraft shop nearby but I'm sure there'll be somewhere on the internet which will help. A lustre spray is just what I need.I've got some edible glitter and edible glue, so I'll top my supplies up with the lustre spray. I'm planning to make a cake based on the creature from Alien (so cutting it is going to be a great occasion). I shall post pictures when it's done!

Yes but you only need a small amount;) I also add a small amount of trex to the sugarpaste as well, stops it drying out. Just found a tip online and it says as a general guide you should add 2-3 teaspoons tylose/cmc to a 1lb of fondant. I don't suppose you will be using a 1lb of fondant for a few figures but it gives you an idea;) I tend to just add a pinch to a small ball of fondant. Can i ask you very talented lady's for a sponge recipe to bake a 7" square cake.
I need to make a postman pat cake in the shape of pats van so i need it to be sturdy enough to cut up and make into the van shape. In the book it gives you the recipe and tells you to cook it for about 1.5 - 1.75 hours on a very low heat but when i tried to cook it it was done in about 3/4 hour so i though i would try another sponge recipe. I am going to make a copy of the van cake this weekend just to see how it fits all together and then i can make the postman pat and jess models our of fondant and leave it to dry out. Another question is how long will it take to dry out the models? Also how do you get a smooth finish on the fondant i need to piece some of the van together with the fondant will it just smooth together?0
