i didnt used to use the glitter but i got requested for it once....now i use a little on just the decorations i want to sparkle.....youll find not many people actually eat the decorations, and most actually keep them! I only use it on the actual cake to give effects.....yesterday i used it on a pingu cake to make the snow 'sparkle' i use it sparingly and it seems to be fine. I think if you crush the crystals they may just turn into white dust?
honestly glitter is fine though, no-one will even taste it as long as u dont use huge amountsxxx

Just wondering if you can advise me........making cupcakes for my grandsons christening and I have bought a tiny pot of The Sparkle Range Rainbow Dust in Glacier Orange which I was wanting to sprinkle on the icing. I bought it in a shop that sold cake decorating supplies and I assumed it would be okay to eat....but is it. I don't want to make anybody ill and there will be quite a lot of children there. In two minds whether to take it back as I have not broke the seal.
Hi
I have used sparkledust before on my cupcakes and my dd birthday cake and we have all been fine. I made some cupcaked last wk and took them into work to be wolfed down by my collegues with no complaints and no illnesses from the dust.
If you are still unsure you can have a go at making you own coloured sugar by putting some caster sugar in a food bag add a couple of drops of food colouring and shake until the sugar is coated. However I would only use one drop at a time as you dont want the sugar to get sticky and stick together.
Have a look at this

Its my sons 18th birthday next month and i really would like to make him a cake with a bmx bike theme, does anyone have any pictures of cakes that they have made with a similar thene. Ideally I would like to make the cake out of chocolate but cover it with roll out/fondant icing so a chocolate cake recipe that could be covered would also be very appreciated.
Many thanks

Wow nuttymummy they are fantastic, do you use tutorials how to make the figures or are you just naturally arty and replicate them? I made a postman pat figure to go with a postman pat cake and i found it quite hard to keep all his "parts" i.e. trousers jacket, head etc together and also it kept getting sticky from my hot fingers lol.

I'm doing a butterfly themed party for my ds's 1st birthday. I always make the kids birthday cakes. I was thinking of a butterfly shaped cake. Anyone got any other ideas or pics of really good butterfly cakes?

the simplest way to make a butterfly cake, is to make a round sponge ( ), cut if in half (|), and then arrange it back to back ) (
you can then either just make the body from a rectangle of sponge, or a row of cupcakes
dd recently made one for her sisters birthday that was the 'rainbow cake' inside - for little girls, that gave it even more of a wow effect
