I am going to have a go at some cakepops this weekend as I am doing a big fair in a few weeks time and want to make some to sell. If I made a 20cm round cake how much buttercream should I add??

its all done by eye really, as there are so many variables that will affect the ratios. the mix needs to be stiff and not too wet. so similar to when you make truffles

the less messy route, is to make the mix, lightly freeze it in a thin slab, and then cut out shapes, rather than roll balls then freeze

Dont know if anyone is interested but called at my local b&m and picked up some Dr Oteker butterream in a tub for 49p they come in handy if making a quick cake or have run put of ingredients for butter cream or even for experimenting with icing.

code-a-holic, they look amazing, loving the cake pops! and nuttymummy, fabulous as always.

Well, yesterday's retirement cakes went ok I think, I'm slightly disappointed as I only got a thank you off the person who was retiring, no-one else said thank you or commented on them at all. I presume they were ok as they all went, but slightly peeved that I didn't get any feedback.... :(

but, the one good thing that came out of it was my friend who sits next to me wants me to do a giant cupcake for her 2 year old's birthday in a couple of weeks with mickey mouse on the top, and a dozen of the chocolate mars bar cupcakes so at least one good thing came out of it. Anyone know a good place to get a mickey mouse cake decoration?
You're so very special, I wish I was special

I have made some cake pops this afternoon and all went well and will definitely be looking at selling them at the carnival I am doing in June, will post pics on my facebook site tom. Just out on interest in these, I have seen candy melts on Ebay and they seem fairly expensive?? I have compared the weight and cost to what I spent on choc covering from supermarket today, am I right in thinking this??? It was .86p for silver spoon cake covering for 300g and 400g of candy melts costs £4.99??? Thought I could add some colour to the cakepops and appeal to the masses of younger people at the carnival. Great cakes btw!

Thank you! You have inspired me for my number 1 butterfly cake :D I have just noticed you use coloured boards and they really set off the cakes nice! Are they painted or fabric? I have some nice fabric I could use to cover a board for my cake. I love the fluff too! How have you held it to the cake? (sorry! So many questions!! But I love your cakes and ideas!) my son would love the Iggle piglet cake!

ive never used cake covering (value brand eating chocolate works out cheaper per 100g, and has a higher cocoa content too), so cant comment on how it would differ from candy melts. but the only difference i have found between eating choc and candy melts is how it sets and the speed it sets at. candy melts set hard, so crack when you bite into them. if i wanted to achieve this with eating choc, i would have to temper it, and i cant be bothered with the faff.

also candy melts are flavourless (unless you buy the flavoured ones), whereas white chocolate can be quite sickly, and you also have to be careful when colouring it, as it can seize

i just prefer the ease of using candy melts, espec if i want bright primary colours
