thanks, I was well impressed this time round. I used the rounded end pointing down and do semi circles of icing. I think if you tilt the nozzle slightly outwards as you go round the second time you will get slightly better petals.
I have just ordered a 1m star tip so I can try doing the swirl roses as I would like to cover a whole cake in swirl roses like Ive seen, looks so pretty and not forgetting the dusting of the essential glitter.
I am making my nephews wedding cake next week, EEEKKKKK:eek:! fingers crossed it goes well.
Thanks Bindiboo I used the star nozzle last week for the first time of doing roses they came out well but think I prefer th look of the indvidual petal ones that you have now mastered :T0 -
Sorry if this has already been asked but I would love to start cake making but wondered if you more experienced lovelies could help me out with what I need.....

I hope you can see that! :-) xx
Hi
Welxome to the thread, fondant, ready to roll and sugarpaste are the same thing. You can buy it ready coloured or colour it yourself by using coloured pates or gel. They come in little pots and are really strong in colour so you only need to dip a cocktail stick in the colour and then on to the fondant then knead it in. As you only use a tiny amount they last for ages.
Most supermarkets or onlint baking shops sell the coloured fondant also Hobbeycraft and Ebay dont know how the prices copare though. They come in blocks think the smallest is 250g however it will keep once opened if it is well wrapped.

so, after doing cakes for work for fun, I've finally got 2 orders coming up in the next week. 4 dozen cupcakes for a retirement from work on Friday and a giant cupcake for a birthday next tuesday!! Soooooo panicky now!! Hope they turn out ok!! Am charging £10 for the giant cupcake and £15 for the cupcakes. I know I'm probably undercharging but dont want to over do it for the first few. If anyone has any pointers I would appreciate itYou're so very special, I wish I was special :dance:0

Hey guys, have posted on here a few times but this is the first time I've put a pic up. This is the wedding cake I made for my wedding last week, it saved me £1300 compared to having it made by the designer I 'adapted' the design from but it did take me 6 months to make all the flowers!!! Each flower was handmade by me and I am sooooo proud of it!!0

This was my daughter's wedding cake. My son-in-law is/was Mini mad and I made the cake the same colour as the Mini he had back then. It has him & my daughter leaning out of the windows with my then 2 year old grandaughter sitting on the roof. The base cake was a rich fruit cake and the Mini was a sponge cake, baked in a large roasting tin and cut to shape and covered in fondant (roll out) icing.
Your cake is fantastic Lisa. Well done.0 -
I have made Spongebob this week - and a dartboard - despite the dartboard only being 1 layer - it was tricky to cover tidily. - very annoying. It was a exact size replica - went down well though!0 -
Those cakes all look fantastic!!! Have just made my first maderia cake, it was for my husbands 50th birthday. Have been lurking here for ages getting ideas and tips! Not sure how to add photo, will keep trying, Thanks everyone for all you tips. I am loving this thread!!!0

I've been asked to make a birthday cake (don't know why) and wondered if it would be better to make it in two sandwich tins or one deep tin? I have a deep 8" tin i could use - will it cook the same if i just use a normal basic victoria sponge recipe as it would in sandwich tins?
Everybody's cakes look fab - hope mine turns out half as good!0
