Each layer is standard sponge cake flavoured with fresh fruit and coloured with concentrated paste then cooked seperately (red = strawberry, orange = orange, yellow = lemon, green = kiwi, blue = blueberry, purple = grape). The frosting is made egg whites, sugar, water, cream of tartar and vanilla essence.

The cake looks lovely did you make your own flowers and what did you put underneath the flowers on the top cake. Did you pipe around the edge of the two cakes ionsdie when you sandwiched them together with buttercream? I have trouble with ime cos you can always see a indent where the top sits on the bottom around the edges.

Hi Awesome, sorry for the slow reply, been busy with work & haven't had time to come on pc.
I made the flowers from fondant using a blossom plunger cutter and gently plunging them into a foam pad. I then popped them onto some crumpled foil, which helped them keep their slight cupped shape. I made them a few days before so they could dry out. The coloured middle is just a little blob of coloured icing. Underneath the flowers is 'grass' - just piped green royal icing using a grass/hair nozzle.
The top cake was a fruit cake so it was marzipanned and then fondant iced. If I was using sponge though, I would do just the same as AnnieH said in her post. Cover it with buttercream first to smooth it out and let it dry a bit . I have seen quite a few tutorials where they put it in the fridge to set as well.SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65

Question for anyone who has made a giant cupcake. How did you cut it up? I've not made mine yet just wondering for when i do.0

hmmm, don't really know lol. I have made several but for other people. The one I made for DH bday, he took to work because it was too big for us here. I think I would probably cut slices the same as a normal cake then cut the slice in half.SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65

The way to avoid the indent og the 2 cakes sandwiched together when you decorate them with sugarpaste, is to put a payer of buttercream all over the cake, and straighten the edges with a pallette knife or straight edge. Let that dry, and then roll your sgarpaste onto it. Then you don't get that line where you can see the join.
Thanks Annie I do this already but the indent still shows :mad: have bought a side scraper to see it this helps it go on smoother and did watch a video on you tube where they piped a "dam" around the edges. Hopefully onwe of these will work0 -
