Hi flea
Thanks very much but wanted to try it out first hence looking for a substitue that I could use as a tin. Can only think beans but this is the wrong shape if only they would invent suae cans my life would be eaiser:p
i dont know of any small metal tins that are true squares, as most things i could think of have rounded corners (have been racking my brains for hours lol)
tbh i would be tempted to buy a multisize cake tin with additional dividers, as that way the pan is more versatile - although you would still be looking at £30+

Ive managed to bake the cake last night in a pirex dish and was going to ice it tonight. can i ask did you ice it in which and then just stick the black shapes on to it or did you cut out all teh shapes and jigsaw them together IYGWIM.
Thanks
Hi
I iced the cake in a thin layer of buttercream so the rolled out icing would stick then I placed the shpes on indivduallythat way you get the linesin between the shapes. I think it looks better than icing the whole thing in white then pouuting the black shapes on because the black shapes would sitck out

Hey all,
I was just after a bit of advice. A friend/Colleague has aske dme to make her daughters 17th birthday cake (In the form of a giant cupcake!), and she has asked to let me know how much she owes me. How much should I charge her? I dont make cakes to sell normally, only make them for testing purposes and havent got a clue what to charge!
Thanks in advance
PS - I love the rainbow cake, I may have to have a bash at making one! So bright!xx

first question, do you have the mould to make this task easier? if you have to buy the mould, how likely are you to use it again?
if doing mates rates for a cake, most people charge about £10 for an 8" simply decorated cake - if charging normal prices it would be about £20 , and if you have all your certs and insurance it would be more like £30
it all depends on what your colleague expects for her money. some people think a homemade cake would be cheaper than the shops, but when Tesco sell a giant cupcake for £3.99 (ok not as big as the JML mould ones), you just cant compete without feeling like you are ripping people off

Yep, I have the mould already. She just wants 'a pretty looking giant cupcake' (Thats her request!). I was worried that the supermarket prices for cakes are quite cheap these days, and was thinking of charging her £10 but didnt want her to think I was over charging her. I guess £10 isnt to bad, as ill be using a 6 egg recipe, and decorations on it..So much for 'Money Saving'0 -
I thought I would share a pic of my latest giant cupcake! So much for 'Money Saving'0 -
Babyfreckles, I would expect to pay more than that, even on mates rates!
My question, I want to bake and ice some biscuits (maybe gingerbread or does anyone have any other recommendations? Also want to do a sponge and decorate it (no idea how yet but prob with fondant). I was wondering how long in advance I could make them. Would the cookies freeze with the icing(and silver balls) so I could make them early and how far in advance could I do the cake?
