What about a curly wurly - make sure it is soft and pliable and bend for handle shape.

Thanks that is a great idea did think or rolling some sugarpaste and sticking cocktail sticks in the end then into the cake nor sure if it will stay up though maybe have to mould it till it dries. Will definatley try the curly wurly.

I've just finished my fiends engagment cake - this was the whole reason I started baking a whole 3 weeks ago :)

I really really hope she likes it - I have tried SOO hard

Please let me know what you think - honestly!!

I can already see that some of the roses could be neater (I'm so tired so kinda shoved them on at the end!!)

thanks, stardrops - confidence thing with the charging! cant recommend the glaze highly enough, did 60 cupcakes today and used the glaze on the darker roses then a small sprinkling of glitter and they looked the beezneezz , amazing how it also covers the blemmishes, have a black jewellery box to do next week so will do a couple of coats of that to get a really good shine, just trying to think of what i can make to decorate it - like to do something different rather than just a necklace, ring and bracelet

    stokegal - love the cake
awesome - looking at the picture you posted - is it maybe chocolates stuck together - maybe something like munchies would work because of their shape, or if you got a heavier gauge florist wire you could do icing beads to match the bag and thread them on, or how about toffee - make your own but drizzle it over something round iyswim. have seen on some of the programmes them using what looks like rice crispies and possibly marshmallow melted to mould shapes, or how about melting chocolate and making a flatish handle - pipe the edges with thickish icing and then fill either with more icing or chocolate let them go hard and voila! hth

I will try that the next time. I have a hello kitty cake to make in a few weeks, plus a christening cake.

Does anyone know of any cake decorating classes either in derbyshire or staffordshire. I feel that I could do with a few more tricks of the trade?
    Thanks

There is a Sugar Craft Course at Newcastle College in Stoke on Trent - I'm looking at doing that in the new year

Alternatively I know that at church in Longton in Stoke a local lady charges £3 a class for cake decorating.

    Hi Skint
Thanks for these ideas think I will try the icing beads I have some cake wire which I could try. Daft question time now :rotfl:how would I thread them on if Ileave them to dry they will be too hard to thread or if they are wet they will go flat if I try to lift them sorry to sound dim but new to cake decorating.
    TIA

That looks deilish how did you make the icing:T

I got some colour paste and used a brush and painted two big stripes on the inside of the icing bag, put the icing in and then it comes out.

The buttercream was very thick though so didn't go on as well as i would of liked it to.

I just bought some more eggs and butter so am going to be making more cupcakes at some point :D

I would love to go to a cake decorating class, but i cant find any in Portsmouth :(
