Your explanation was great, I just love the grass.
I have been trying to figure out how to post pics up on here, but it hasn't worked,
So here is my link to my facebook page. I made to cakes yesterday, 1 a cricket cake and the other a star trek cake

    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4810607&id=317140568039&ref=fbx_album

    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4810607&id=317140568039&ref=fbx_album

I tried to use press in lettering but failed thats why the wording on the cricket cake is a bit wonky. Its all trial and error, especially on my behalf.
I also wondered if anyone could tell me how to make the cake, once it has been decorated to look all clean and shiny, I never seem to be able to do this, mine always looks a bit dusty from icing sugar.

I would try brushing it gently with a slightly damp pastry brush but make sure it's only slightly damp and not wet;) Lovely cake btw.

    Hi there great cake btw!!
I used to always have that problem, I now use cornflour instead of icing sugar when rolling out the icing - a much nicer finish I think, it also just brushes off when you're finished. :D

I will try that the next time. I have a hello kitty cake to make in a few weeks, plus a christening cake.

Does anyone know of any cake decorating classes either in derbyshire or staffordshire. I feel that I could do with a few more tricks of the trade?
    Thanks

hi - same as mentioned use cornflour when rolling it out, then use a large soft brush to "dust!" the cake. i use a confectioners glaze to get a shiny effect, works brilliant on darker colours - i always use it on black - whether its a black cake or detailing on the cake. cant recommend highly enough and takes your cake from looking homemade to professional finish. you can get it from squires or i get mine from knightpilgrim on ebay. use vodka and paste or powder food colourings for lettering also works a treat (dont worry the vodka evaporates)

I've just finished my fiends engagment cake - this was the whole reason I started baking a whole 3 weeks ago :)

I really really hope she likes it - I have tried SOO hard

Please let me know what you think - honestly!!

I can already see that some of the roses could be neater (I'm so tired so kinda shoved them on at the end!!)
