    Morning All,

Where has everybody gone?? it's been all quiet lately :(.

I was thinking about my lack of NSD's recently then I started wondering how other people count them....

For example, yesterday I bought petrol, which obviously I have to buy and is in my budget but I didn't buy anything else at all. Does this count as an NSD as I didn't spend money on unnecessary things or am I just trying to bend the rules a bit? :rotfl:. When I thought about it last night I realised that because I don't have set shopping/filling up days that I have 'lost' a lot of NSDs from just doing the usual (and budgeted shops). I'm interested in what you guys think

Bad news yesterday...had a frank chat with my boss about the company's performance and we are struggling a fair bit. My year end bonus is based on our annual earnings so while it could have been amazing.....it looks like it's going to be well short of what I had hoped :(. I should be grateful that I am getting one at all but it's still made me feel a bit down as it seems after making good progress so far that my DFD may be a little further ahead than planned.

    Bah Humbug

That sucks about the bonus, but like you say, at least you get one, we don't :(

I haven't been counting NSDs really, I'll mention them if I have them but I don't plan for a set amount a month or anything. By the way I class a NSD as spending no money at all, but then I may be doing it wrong! :rotfl:

Thanks for stopping by my diary by the way :)

JTR, that sucks about the bonus. But it's hard not to pen these things into our plans for clearing our debt. I've already accounted for this year and next years bonus for my aspirational DFD. I hope it works out for you though.

And about the NSD, I think it depends on you, and what you class as a 'spend'. For me I would say my train fair doesn't count, because I have to get the train to work. As for petrol, I have to get around in my car. I would take essentials out of the equation, but make sure you have a list of what is essential and what's not, that way you can work toward your NSD :)

I'm still here too. Sacks about the bonus but hey, that's life. I got last Xmas half a week's salary, I wasn't expected any so welcomed it with a huge grin. It wasn't much but I know that was they could only afford.

NSD for me is really when you don't spend any money. Even if you accounted for it. Sorry. I gave up NSDs cause I badly failed every month :).

Thanks peeps. I think you were right Adam, even though it's a 'bonus' when you become so used to it that it is almost part of your salary it's hard not to include it in plans. It could be worse and I could be my boss who has already 'spent' his bonus on his wedding next summer . I am sure he will still walk away with enough but his has dropped a huge amount as well. Although our figures are based on company profitability there isn't actually anything we can directly do to improve earnings, we have to reply on managers to get out there and sell....ho hum.

Ok so let's be positive!!!! :money:

I did a friends VAT return today and he paid me £15 :T, that has gone straight to savings, I was going to keep it a secret until payday but in the interest of motivation and pats on the back I thought I would reveal my current savings total - £238.62 :D. I have £100 in my purse ready for the car service (plus this coming Sundays wages), still have over £20 in change to go in the bank and my current account is £100 in credit with the £24 refund to go in, I still need to take the other trousers back which is another £16. I have enough petrol for this week so will just need some next week and prob some food shopping.

Am hoping that the car wont cost me anything out of my bank and that I might even have a little left over. If I can add a total of £100 to my savings this month then I will be very happy given the car is going to be in excess of £100.

    Hi Jody
I think I've had all the bad car luck available this year so I'm sure yours will be fine!!!!
I count a NSD as not spending anything at all, but I don't count any DDs etc that are coming out of my bank account, it's just money from my purse/debit card, but everyone does it differently so you can tailor it to yourself.
Sorry to hear your bonus will be smaller than you thought... mind you I always get carried away with the prospect of money coming in when I'm not sure exactly how much it'll be, decide it's going to be a huge amount, spend it three times over in my mind and then deal with the disappointment when I get a third of what I'd decided I was going to be getting!!! This is exaclty what happened with the tax rebate I just got, I convinced myself I was going to be getting £1000 and I got just under 300, which is still great, but won't cover my holiday spending money!!
Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.
  • Do you have any reason to think that the car will need anything doing to it? Or is it just that 'expect the worst and hopefully get a nice suprise when nothing is wrong'?

Well done on the savings total :T

    hi Jody,
You sound like you've been super organized with your budget this month, well done :D I never get round to returning things, last time I cleared out my wardrobe I sent loads of things to the charity shop that still had tags in, but I'd lost the receipt etc.

Bad news on your bonus though, I hope things pick up towards the end of the financial year. I've only one year's bonus at this job, which nicely was more than I was expecting, but I'm already planning what to spend next years on (and assuming it'll be the same) :( should really stop that!

Thanks Annie :). Maybe my problem is that because I work in Head Office and see the results each month I can effectively track what I am....and therefor are not getting!

Pennies - the car is going in for a well overdue annual service which I think is about £100 but I need them to sort the dodgy not working brakes out as well

I am trying to be organised Jules, I often used to forget to take things back but I have 'made' £41 from it this month so it needs to be done!

Had to get milk on the way home last night which ruined my planned NSD :(. So far so good today, had the free soup at lunch which has filled me up nicely :D. A colleague of mine mentioned today that you could dive at the Brighton Sea Life centre , obviously I had to investigate this and it turns out they are doing charity dives with the sharks! I emailed them to see whether my diving qualification was sufficient but apparently they have suspended it at the moment due to some changes within the sea life centre but they are hoping to start up again later this year. They have taken my contact details and are going to let me know what happens :D.

I have also sent an email to a local dive club to ask about upgrading my scuba diver qualification to an open water one and what sort of dives I can do. I did email another club in March and again earlier this week but they haven't bothered to reply so I decided they can't have my money :rotfl:. I would like to keep my dive log current but obviously this will depend on costs etc!

I really fancy having a go at diving.... maybe if I have to move to Devon for the job, I could take it up then?!
I have no idea how much it costs, I'll have a look into it when I get a job... my list of things I'm going to do when I get a job is growing daily :rotfl:

The sea life centre sounds great, make sure you prod them if they don't come back to you!!
