Chip 'n' Pin - A Quick Guide Discussion Area

Lady K, Tell your card issuer exactly how you feel. Use their own T&Cs to your (and not the card issuers) advantage: (following is cross posted):
My bank decided that it would prefer to give me a Chip & Signature credit card rather than have me comply with their T&C on the Chip & PIN card.
The terms of the C&P card required "cardholders to notify the bank immediately the cardholder suspected anyone else knew their PIN" - the banks words not mine. I pointed out that everytime I used the card in a store I must suspect that someone knew my PIN (shop assistant, customer behind, CCTV camera operator). Even if I shielded my PIN I could not be sure nobody knew.
Therefore I was duty bound to call them and advise them of my suspicion and they could take what action they deemed necessary.
The T&C did not specify what action they would take and I would not insist on any. When they told me that the automatic action they would take was to cancel the card and re-issue it, the penny then dropped with the bank that they could either issue me 50 plus cards a year or issue a C&S card.
The thing I found interesting was the bank commenting that they didn't expect people to read the T&Cs. I wonder why.
Telephone numer for getting a Chip & Signature Card from the Halifax is:
01422 326110 (TBC).
For Student 100:

Was it used in "Chip and Signature" mode, i.e. did they read the chip and then print a signature voucher... or was it used in "legacy" swipe-and-sign mode?student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0 -

Hi,
A combination of the two depending on what the retailer had installed. Worked fine in chip terminals, just printed out a slip for a signature. Of course, I can't guarantee it will work in every chip terminal in every country
Has anyone used a C&S card in a chip terminal in France?

Chip-and-PIN linked to drop in card fraud
"Credit card fraud has fallen by nearly a third following the introduction of chip-and-PIN technology, according to figures published this week..."student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0 -
Do they publish figures for how much fraud is now not reported as fraud as it is deemed the customer was negligent with their pin? No, didn't think so

I was in a store today and used Chip n Pin card to pay but till declined 3 seperate cards issued by different Banks, (PIN no.s ok ) spoke to bank and agreed cards no issue with them. Complained to Store Manager who said it was card processing companies fault. Anyone else had this issue ?0

Neither my OH or I like chip and pin, the keypads i shops are not private enough. None of our debit card are used as chip and pin. Lloyds said they'd only send us a pin no if we asked for it. I think it would be easier and quicker for someone to empty our account using a pin number, it would take a bit more time and effort to forge our signatures. I think come feb 14th I'll be using cash only.0

chip and pin is no good as far as i concerned anyway.
TODAY WHILE IN TOWN BUYING BDAY PRESENTS FOR MY SON I WANTED TO TRY SOMETHING,
SO WHEN I WAS BEHIND SOMEONE I NOTICED HOW EASY IT IS TO GET SOMEONES PIN (AT THIS POINT I WOULD LIKE TO SAY I HAVE NOT WROTE DOWN NORE REMEMBERED ANY OF THIS NUMBERS AS I AM NOT A LAW BREAKER.)
BY THE END OF THE AFTERNOON I HAD SEEN WELL OVER 50 PIN NUMBERS,NOW THAT IS NOT GOOD TO ME. IT JUST SHOWS IF THE PEOPLE WHO DO THIS TYPE OF CRIME THE CHIP AND PIN IN MY EYES AS MADE THE JOB EVEN EASIER FOR THEM. LOVE LIFE PROCEED & PROGRESS0
