The transcript from MoneyBox on Chip & PIN / Chip & Signature can be found here:

Can any readers of this forum identify the questions side stepped by the panel?

Please note that Mondex have been trailing special chips very succesfully for a number of years.
These chips are placed IN your right arm or IN your forehead!!!
The chips are the same as those in your credit card and so you can see how the market is moving!!
Also, you need to know that successful experiments have been carried out for such chip "holders" to be given facilites so that the chip switches local lights on and off as you move down a corridor, open dorrs etc etc
Further experiments are now being carried out to see if the chips can be programmed to make you feel drowsy, awake or otherwise stimulate your feelings.
Sorry this is gruesome - it is true (check the internet) - and we all need to be aware of where this technology is going.0 -

you cant put text on your photocard (or have i picked you up wrong?)0 -
This is a copy of an email I received from Abbey:
When ordering photo cards the image content must be suitable to pass our guidelines, part of which includes that no words, letters or numbers in any form can be incorporated as part of the image.
I hope this clarifies this for you but should you have any further questions about the new photo cards please do not hesitate to email us again
Are Abbey missing an opportunity of providing cardholders with a 'safer' card?
A chipped card which can be machine checked for authenticity, with the cardholders photo and suitable text (photo of cardholder or owners photo), in my opinion offers a higher level of personal security than that offered by a PIN.

From the Scotsman, 18 Feb 2005
"Shoppers were also warned that they will be responsible if fraudsters use their new chip and PIN credit cards.
The banks have said they will not reimburse customers who let criminals get hold of their four-digit security codes. Previously, cardholders were refunded when their signature was forged."

The question remains unanswered. Why are card issuers not making it absolutely clear whether it's a compulsory or a legal requirement for a cardholder to have a PIN with their Chipped card?0 -
Each year my Brother-in-Law and I take a shamefully hedonistic 10 days buying wine, usually in France.
Last year at a BP service station in France he had a C&P refused - seeing that it was an English card, they first refused even to try! When at last persuaded, the card was half-heartedly "tried" and failed, though it had functioned perfectly well in England.
Having had some compatibility problems some years ago with conventional cards on the Continent, is there likely to be a problem with C&P?
I intend to use my Nationwide (relatively new) C&P card, (NOTE no longer cashback on foreign transactions) which has worked here in England.
We are likely to be driving through France, Spain and Portugal.0 -
 Chip and pin, what a joke.
Tesco, asda, clothes retailers, numerous service stations... every where ive used it up to now, the keypad is in such a bad position everyone in the queue can see your pin, the assistant, and people around the till or walking past. Having to sheild it with your hand isnt adequate, almost all the till assistants are watching you.
Im paranoid as it is of shoulder surfers while at the cash point, now ive got people from every direction that can see my pin.0 -
I'm so short that half the time I have to stretch to reach the machine and anyone can look over my shoulder anyway
Don't like it at all.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
I absolutely agree that the new system still isn't adequate. I can't believe (after hearing that it would make it so much harder for someone to do credit card fraud) that those 2 little semicircle things at the sides of the machine are supposed to cover the pad! Anyone can see it, especially for us short people who cant cover the pad from all directions as anyone can just look over the shoulder- I am quite angry about this because I feel more at risk now than before- I can really see the potential for people standing in queues waiting for you to input your pin and then grabbing the card and running- or worse they could follow you out of the store and mug you. Ok maybe the chance of this happening is still small but if they spent millions on this system how much would it have cost to make bigger bits of plastic for the sides of the machine!!!!0
