If the card has only just arrived, you'll need to wait a few days as they try to send the PIN separately from the card for security reasons.

If you've had the card a week or so and no PIN has arrived yet, I'd get in touch with the card issuer as it may have gone astray somewhere. It's useless without the card though so don't worry! The bank will just issue you with a new one.

    Hi Digginout,

Who is your card provider who has been chip and pinning?

Curious to know who has issued fully working chip and pin cards and not just chip cards.

    Thanks

Sorry for getting back to this so late. Been spending too much time in MSA and discussion board.

RBS Advanta. Had the card for some months, actually.
I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. I could be a raving lunatic, or a brilliant genius, or just some guy on the internet. In fact, I could be all three at the same time.

If anything I say makes sense, then do it. If not, don't. Don't blame me or my stars if you do something stupid because I suggested it. I'm responsible for my own stupidity only. You are responsible for yours.

Why, I don't even have five stars anymore! Aren't you glad you aren't responsible for my stupidity?

Read the contributions to this forum. Make an informed decision whether you wish a PIN with your card or not.

If you don't want or need a PIN then contact your card issuer and ask for a Chip & Signature Card.

We've just returned from Tenerife. My wife used her SAGA photo card without the need for producing her passport once. Non-photo card, cardholders were religiously asked for their passports.

All Nationwide debit cards that are valid from 05/04 have been distributed as C&P enabled ( except for those that request otherwise ::) )

I personally don't have any negative things to say about it and feel that it's quicker to C&P than sign. I live around 15 miles away from the initial test centre (Northampton) and work at Safeway Rushden where we have C&P pads.

The length of wire that is available for the pad is reasonable and to be honest customers don't have a problem in finding somewhere where they can conceal their PIN entry.

ASDA has the pin pads but they don't seem to be active yet.
Went to ASDAs tonight and there was a notice saying that they will be using Chip and PIN from next week.

Now all I've got to do is convince the Amex person in India that it isn't just active in Northampton.

I am having trouble at ASDA. They insist I use the chip and pin keypad. I would love to do this with one my credit card, but I don't know if it is a C&P card.

Yes, it has a chip; yes it has a pin (and I know it), but this doesn't make it a C&P card, ... does it?

At the moment I am forced to use my Switch card which I know is definitely C&P. (Because my bank issued it specially). This is not ideal as I missing out on my cashback/points etc.

Can someone tell me how I can find out if I have a C&P credit card card? I am reluctant to "just try it".

I am disabled. I will have great difficulty pressing the pin number keys, and at wheelchair height I feel it would be easy for others in the queue to see my PIN number. At the moment a fraud by my carers whereby they forged my signature, would be possible to detect. But if I have to reveal my PIN number to them to enter - won't this make me very vulnerable?
    Any ideas or solutions?

Are the pads that they are now introducing into supermarkets easier to press? They seem to be at a more wheelchair user friendly height .

    Kate:

You may consider that it's more practicle for you to contine to sign.

If you ask your card issuer they should inform you that a Chip & Signature Card is available. This is a new type card that leaves you with the option of signing (as per norm). The chip on your card will tell the machine to produce a receipt (which you sign) rather than instruct you to enter a PIN.

The PIN pads I've seen leave much to be desired. Access is poor at many outlets and security shields almost non existant. How you're supposed to hold a (floating) pad in one hand cover it with the other and then enter a PIN goodness knows - Has anyone any advice?

I would argue, and I have successfully, that changing all your cards to work with the same PIN is poor adivce and bad security practice. Issues of PIN security and liability for PIN missuse have been covered already in this forum. For these reasons I've been issued with a Chip and Signature Card - it works for me and I feel a lot more comfortable with it.
