  • Your ESTA article seems to suggest that ESTAs are only required for airtravel into the USA. My wife and I are going on a cruise in October including visits to various ports in the USA and were informed that we would require an ESTAs before we could embark on our cruise. Who is right

You need an esta. You don't need an esta for a land crossing (and you've got until tomorrow to get one for free)
  • Thanks whatajoke1. i have seen this so i know his passport qualifies:( must be somthing else then. we've been thinking with my husband what could have caused this trouble. he thinks it could be that some years ago his ex-wife applied for a visa and was refused. He was on on her application where spouse info was required. maybe the visa fee was also paid with his card - he doesn't remember now. I think this is weird, why would these two things be connected? it was HER application, not his. SHE was refused a visa, not him. i guess, we won't be able to tell and it's just a guessing game that is not going to help anyway as they don't care:(

Visa refusal doesn't necessary mean an esta refusal though. Try one more time tomorrow and see what happens. Basically esta only checks against a few things, and it could be anything. Only people who know for sure are the US, and they won't tell.
  • Hi

My other half was done this year for cultivation of a small cannabis plant and posession of a taser (kept in drawer). He got 100 hrs community service. will he not be able to go on holiday? if you lie on the form how will they know? what happens if we put yes and it gets declined?
    HELP!!

He needs a visa. He won't get a visa as he'll also need a waiver of ineligibility. Hes unlikely to get one of those for about 6 or 7 years. He also can't get into Canada for 5 years.

Posession of a taser isn't a problem, and wouldn't be a problem for a visit to the US, the cultivation of a cannabis plant is a major showstopper.
  • I can't seem to get on the ESTA site. Is anyone else having this problem?
  • Hi,

I've just applied for 4 ESTAs for me and the family and I had trouble getting on, and its very slow now I am on.

Oh, and all 4 applications have gone to pending and I need to ckeck back in 72 hours - which is past the deadline. Great.

    Maybe the don't my surname!

We had ESTA`s taken out in Feb 2010. Decided to do some new ones then we would be covered the the next 2 summers. I`ve just done mine and its `under review`. Wish I had just left them now as they would have covered us for next summer.

Wondering now if I should leave my daughters and husbands or now I have started apply for them and see what happens. Not really sure which would be best.

Has anyone had one under review that has been authorised? I just filled it in with all the details as per my previous one but without the accomodation or flight details :(
