DH getting pulled by police! A lot?

Hi

Im wondering, does anyone else get pulled over by the police a lot and what would be considered a lot?

DH has been driving for almost 2 and a half years, hes 27 although he does look young. He had never been pulled until the last 4 months, hes been pulled 4 times now.

Its always when hes on his way to work or on his way home from work, he doesn't drive irresponsible or speed. As he is a butcher he works early mornings, starting at 5am 6 days a week, both times hes been pulled on a morning he was asked what he was doing driving at that time of day (4.30am), I actually found this amusing when he told me, because he was wearing company clothes with the company logo spread across the front of it, on one occasion they searched his car, didnt say why just told him to open his boot etc, the other two times hes been pulled have been about 10 minutes away from home and both times the police car has gone out of its way to turn round to pull him over.

It might be worth mentioning that he has had 3 different cars over the period that hes been getting pulled.

I think DH is getting a little fed up now, but also getting used to it, he never used to carry any documents with him other than his license, he now carries everything in a plactic wallet.

I suspect that the police are trying to find a burglar working the area. The fact that he's been in three different cars won't help - once the local teams get to know him and his car he'll probably not get stopped any more. Or he looks a bit like one of the local villains?

He's right to carry identification - reduces the hassle to as little as possible.

I would be asking politely at the local nick to see what they say. Hopefully they will come up with a reason as suggested by marlot.

If he had been in the same car everytime I think he would have been really annoyed but the first time he was in the volvo, the second and third time he was in the nissan and the forth time (this morning) he was in the scenic, although we dont intend on having anymore cars now so if it carries on we may ask at the local police station.

I think its because he looks young, when we moved to our new house 3 months ago, the next door neighbour said she thought he was only 19, so shows how young he looks.

I don't think being out at 5am is especially unusual. I'm out that early quite often and it's surprising the amount of traffic around.

But as you say, if he looks 19, out at that time, it's going to look suspicious.

If he'd stick to the same car every day, the police will get to know him and not stop him!

Don't bother. I doubt they'd give you the time of day.

Hes not constantly in different cars, we had the volvo for 6 months, used to much petrol, then got the nissan as a put me on till we found the right car, had that for 2 months, now have the scenic and have no intentions of getting rid, love it.

Its rather quiet round our end at that time on a morning, he says he only ever sees taxis out and about when hes on his way to work.

Its a shame everything goes on looks, he may look young, but hes a very responsible adult and if it wasn't for him been on his way to work at 4.30am a few weeks back there could have been a lot of houses and cars burnt out, he spotted 2 cars on fire down a street he drives through to get to work, if he hadn't have stopped and called the fire service, there wouldn't have been anyone else around to do it.

I completely understand how they can do spot checks to anyone at anytime and my husband doesn't mind at all when they are nice and polite, its when they are rude and abrupt that it annoys him.

Being a young looking 21 year old that drives a nice car, I feel your husbands pain. I'd say I get pulled on average once a month. It's bloody annoying! The worst is if I'm on my way to work in the morning and they pull me over because it makes me late for work.

Whilst it annoys me, I'd be more annoyed if the police had failed to stop my car after it had been stolen so I can put up with the inconvenience.

A few of the coppers know me now and they won't pull me over :)

I got pulled over the other day about 100m away from my friends house. They didn't believe I'd just dropped her off so I called her and got her to come out :rotfl:
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Apparently the policeman who pulled him today said "you dont look old enough to drive, do you have a license" I know he looks young but he sure as hell doesn't look younger than 17.

The worse thing is, it never happened when we lived in Leeds, its since we moved to Wakefield its been happening.

It certainly doesn't help when they talk to you like your muck.

A friend of mine was pulled at 8am this morning by staffordshires finest, the reason? She was wearing a hoody (hood up) while driving.

When she huffed and puffed her way out of the car (she has chronic lung disease and is registered disabled) and explained she had been up early to drop her OH off at the Chemo ward of our local hospital and she had just thrown on the hoody because it was cold she was let on her way. Not before they admitted she had only been stopped because of her hoody!!

OP, who did you buy your current car from? Is it possible it could have a marker against it for drugs etc?
  • As suggested it will be due to the time of the morning and a few factors.

Firstly those on duty at that time will have less emergencies etc to deal with and hence be able to do more routine policing such as traffic stops.

Secondly 430am is a bad time for drunk drivers and other criminals such as burglars and car thiefs etc and they will be more likely to check this and ensure that he is legitimately out and about at this time afterall most people dont drive around the streets etc at that time of morning and if they do they should be able to tell why pretty quickly.
