He's asked YOU for money to give her!!!!!

Words fail me. What did Action on Elder Abuse have to say?
  • That if he's doing it voluntarily it will be hard to make a case . They said it could be a sign of early dementia that he is giving money away like this, but it could just be the natural gullibility of a more naive generation. He said today ( half-joking) that i was always telling him off - but he was quite prepared to spend a fortune on a private hearing aid without going to his doctor first until i got stroppy with him about it ( he's got an appointment with the NHS clinic this week).Mum says its because she always dealt with all the practicalities of life, so he just doesn't understand things - she doesn't think its dementia, says he was always a sucker for a pretty face and acted without thinking ( but of course she may be a little biassed...)

Or Mum may well know him best and there are events in the past YOU dont know about!

the more I read on this thread the more I am certain that he is being scammed! He surely cannot be that naive?

In your place I would be giving this woman such grief she will be cutting off contact with him - whats she going to do - complain to the police? with no passport etc - she shouldnt even be here! wonder if the immigration dept know about her?????
  • The Home Office know about her - I told them! I must confess that i am a bit scared of approaching her directly as she will then run to Dad and he will be dreadfully upset/furious and i will lose him. Mum says he was always giving money away to people with a sob story and when she tried to stop him he would say she was bitter and jealous so he hasn't changed much.

    Hello

I am sorry if this has been mentioned, but could you contact Social Services as this is almost certainly a case of financial abuse by coercian-I studied very basic concepts as part of a statutory POVA course to work with the elderly, and financial abuse is taken VERY seriously by SS.

I don't think it will matter to SS that your dad is of sound mind-I have seen one person who was of perfectly sound mind protected from her son extracting money from her by writing letters of financial woes to her in a nursing home-she did turn over money of her own free will but it was deemed that she was been financially abused by blackmail/coercion as her son was claiming to be "desperate" for the money.

It is shocking that people abuse such kind hearted people's trust and generosity. I hope everything gets sorted soon
  • Thank you Kerrrpyn, I think this may be the best way forward. I shall try to talk to Social Services.
