I like this thread - I have a draught in my kitchen from under the sink - i dont know the cause but I've 'lagged' the cupboard with carrier bags from supermarkets so try and insulate it.
Also I get a draught from the main door so I'll be getting a big heavy door curtain when I can find one I like (I'm thinking something rich thick and velvety like a stage curtain but the budget doesnt always think along the same lines :rotfl: )
I was also thinking about adding linings to my lined curtains - will double lining them make any difference?
There must be some more OS ideas that I can pinch though.
I did read somewhere about turning down your heating by three degrees to have maximum impact on the bills but I like my warmth.
the draught in your kitchen unit is from the pipe or pipes coming up through your wooden floor (assuming you have one) and if it is a neww hous hous there will be a gap between the foor and wall at the back of the units. take of the plinth boards and stuff underneath with glasswool loft insulation. How do I know this, I'm a joiner
cheers

The other place you might get a draught (I had this problem) is where the kitchen waste pipe goes out through the wall. Mine wasn't sealed... it is now.. flexible filler inside and out and it seems to have solve the problem.0 -
does anyone have any idea how much it costs to have the slow cooker on for 8 hours ?
Compared to having the oven on for 40 min ?
Is there a big difference ?
Im not very good at working out the prices.
Kindness costs nothing0 -
Well today it msut be said i am having a mass washign spree - there is actualyl sun here in south wales so i have a load just finished, a load about to go in, and have 2 airers to fill, one washing line, and im hoping to construct a mini washing line under the main line for smaller items!
My pile of washing is ENORMOUS so wanting to make a dent in it today whilst the weather is nice.Time to find me again0 -
Regarding drying laundry. If I know it's not going to be good drying weather outside, I try to do my washing early morning so that I can dry things over the radiator in the bathroom and use my Tidy Dry retractable washing line over the bath, using the benefit of the morning hot water heating burst, before it turns off.0
