omg just read it and am totally shocked that they can do this to people.
Luckily we have this site to give us tips on how to keep warm but plenty of people do not .

I am seriously thinking about not using my gas at all now.

I put a thick blanket folded in half so it is double, under the bottom sheet as we find it as warming as a top blanket.

Thats a good idea , I might put spare blankets underneath the bottom sheet too. :D .

I am thinking about keeping a box under my stairs , full of items to help keep us warm , so they are close to hand. Think I will put hats and gloves in it,
    water bottles ect.

I often worry about how to keep my dog warm downstairs.
I give her a blanket but she lays on top of it , and her coat is short.
Maybe I should knit her a "night time" coat and put a hot water bottle under her bed.

Think I am gonna change my heating challange to November the 12th :o .

    Just a quick question.........

can I put a small candle in a empty glass jam jar ?

    will the glass crack ?

Its just I have nothing to put all my candles in and do not want to spend money on them  .

    Hi hun

I have two small glasses (as in tumblers) that i stand my little tea lights in and they seem fine - they have blackened slightly but havent cracked, i wouldnt have thought a jam jar would but jsut be careful as i expect it can get pretty hot.

Also my bf is a candle maker and he makes giant 4/5 wicked candles and he makes really tall candles (like the giant pillar ones) and we found the best thing to stand them on is an old plate. We went to a car boot sale and picked up a few odd unwanted plates for abotu 10p each and we stand the big candles on these when they are burning.

Just reminding you all to take care with trying not use your heating until November, please remember DAMP an unheated house will become damp and that's not good for our bones.

Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)
