    First you boil a kettle, then leave it to cool, then heat it up again..? When I make porridge on the stove I keep the gas low and it takes little more time, if any, than it would to heat up.

    I remember years ago people on the net where talking about making porridge in a slow cooker all night. It *may* save energy but I prefer the low tech rather than having something electrical going in the middle of the night (and wearing the slow cooker out perhaps).

    I whack my porridge in the micro for 90 seconds - must try the energy monitor but it does feel like it must be cheaper than that. Always interesting to try stuff out though!

    The Dreampot on the bottom looks like a good idea. Use as a slow cooker. Shame about the price though.

    I went to the makers website. A 3l one was AU$150. They do a 6l for AU$250.

    I know. Need to last a lifetime to get the money back.

    There are instructions on the internet for making your own. Google Haybox.
  • Interesting blog - I've been intrigued by hayboxes since I saw them on the Victorian Kitchen Garden ;)

    I'll add this to the avoid using gas and electricity thread, to keep ideas together.
