results from my washing machine test:

    A RATED wash,B RATED 1200 SPIN :) (model=electrolux EWF12108W)

    wash at 30 degress,quick wash, 59 mins = 0.36 kwh
    wash at 40 degrees,quick wash, 104 mins = 0.83 kwh

will report back once ive done a 60 degress aswell :)

just done an eco was and i am quite suprised at the results of electric consumption

    wash at 30 degrees,quick wash,31 mins = 0.28kwh (only 700 spin)

so for an extra penny or two in electric its better value for money
 NOT  using the eco wash and getting a full wash with 1200 spin, crazy huh !!!!!

    Hi everybody, great thread!
I have vague memories of seeing cardboard used as cheap insulation under a carpet - any thoughts on this please? Particularly whether it might be a fire hazard.
    Thanks in advance.

normally when cooking things like baked beans, scrambled eggs and gravy I don't use lids on the pans. Now I have started to finger crossed that will save a little it of gas.

Hi All - some great tips on here and on other threads. Just wondering if anyone has collated all the tips in a list form ? It would make a great check list if it was all in one place. Would be a lovely task for those who love making lists ?

    Cheers

I found with my machine (although all are probably different) that the spin speed made very little difference, it was the water heat that added the £. So the difference between 30 and 40 degrees was significant but the different spin speed made minimal difference. Which is a nuisance cos our fast wash is a 40 deg one and it means I can get stuff on the line before going to work whereas the 30 deg was is a good bit longer.

Personally if you have the choice I think the best for energy saving is lower temp and higher spin since the higher spin means the clothes dry faster...

Same for me, belfastgirl. Not back at work for another week but have started doing washing in the evening, unloading before bed and hanging out first thing.

I heard somewhere that as the colder weather draws in, it is a good idea to put the plugs back in the plug holes after draining out hot shower/bath/sink water because it keeps the heat in the pipes and stops them freezing... Is there any truth in this?
