    Hi

I read about a week ago talking about hayboxes and how to make a haybox. This was something I was working on at the time to save energy costs so anyway I have a blog and took pics and left instructions which might help if you want to make one yourself. Here's the link:

If you have any questions, I'm happy to help!;)

Wow, thanks for that, everytime I see anything about a haybox I think it's no good for me as I can't get hold of any hay!:p No, really, I have been thinking that............................

Now I shall try to make a haybox (without any hay), it's sounds a brilliant way to reduce cooking costs.

Actually - it is possible to get hold of hay - a large bag of it - from petshops - about £3.

Me - I'm thinking of trying to construct a haybox from a large lidded cardboard box lined with one of those silvery "survival blankets" and using old pillows and/or a cut-up old duvet and figure that should do the trick.

I've recently got an electricity monitor, so i can plug in my various appliances and see how much ice they're melting.

    One thing that surprised me:
I have a couple of desk lamps (bought from ikea) which plug into the mains. The plug on these lamps is a fair bit bigger than the ordinary 3-pin plugs.. i think it's because there is some extra electrical fangdangery in these plugs, that makes our UK power ok for these (swedish??) lamps. IYSWIM.
Anyhoo....i obvioulsly switch these lamps off when i'm not using them, but i don't unplug them at the wall. However, my electric monitor tells me that they are still drawing power..and quite a lot too. Even when the lamp is off, the plug/box thingy gets quite warm, and - horrors - i've been keeping it plugged in 24/7 (well...not any more!).
hope this is useful for all you leccy-vigilantes.

Sorry if this has been mentioned here before, as I've lost track of the thread. But if anyone's looking for energy saving bulbs, Morrisons had some Philips ones in a few days ago. 39p each, or 3 for £1. I could only find the equivelent of 60 and 75 watt (I really wanted 40s and 100s) but at that price I couldn't let them pass me by, so bought 6 :D
