    Hello everyone,

I am on a prepaid gas meter- and to be honest the cost of this is absoloutely crippling!Does anyone know any ways that I can make the cost of this cheaper?

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Thanks,

There is one company that does pre-payment meter at the same charge as direct debit etc, you would have to go on their site to see if they do your area.

I don't know if I am allowed to mention the name of them or not though, I went over to them a few months ago and cannot recommend them highly enough for customer service.

I am so glad to read this, as I have been toying with the idea of buying one of these heaters for the last few days. Can you tell me how long approx one of those gas bottles would last say on medium heat (in hours) - and also are they easy to get hold of. Do you buy them in a shop or have to have them delivered. So many questions sorry.

Also are they heavy for a woman (fairly strong) to carry?

Ooh, it's so long ago I can't remember. I do remember them being very heavy.

You could try the Dervaes family website.:

    www.pathtofreedom.com/

as they sell various similar type goods and see what they have and whether they will ship it to Britain.

    This seems cheaper and greener

It seems you could make one from recycled materials http://www.reuk.co.uk/Solar-Oven-Cooking.htm

    here's a go at it

Hardly neutral but there are some ideas of how long cylinders last and how heavy they are.

Does anyone know whether it is better to use the central heating to heat the water or a kettle for washing the dishes?
  • I would think the kettle would be your cheaper option, as you can heat only as much water as you need.

I kind of combine the two ie I fill the kettle from the first cooler runoff from the boiler. I give it a blast of electricity and add it to whatever I have run into my washing up bowl from the tap

That's the one, I just wasn't sure if I could say the name of the company. Brilliant customer service as I have said as well.

    May be worth a look

I had one of these back in the seventies, but wouldn't recommend it. We used to feel very sleepy when it had been on a while. Just my opinion, though, and quite possibly they've improved since then.
