I know Kittie is doing her own challange to reduce energy costs but maybe we could all do one too
something along the lines of submitting our meter readings on here on a weekly basis then see if you can reduce the consumption by the next reading. My Electric consumption isn't too bad but last winter I was averaging £73.00 per month for my gas:eek: so with the increase in costs I could really do with keeping a close eye on this.

Thats a good idea...Im sort of doing something like that just now, I take a note of my readings each day and try and have them less each day :money:

This may be complete tosh - I'm thinking on the hoof here - but could the quilt be cut into strips and then covered with an attractive tube of fabric. Perhaps make a tube by turning the short ends in then sewing up the long edge. Stuff the quilt strip inside and then tie the ends sort of Xmas cracker style.
Maybe old quilts could be used for other insulation problems such as stapling a piece to the loft hatch door - always strikes me as odd that we spend a fortune laying down insulation between the rafters then leave a dirty great hole with just a lump of wood in it.
I've just made some draught-excluders (after reading through this thread!) and have stuffed them with old pillows and I also had an old armchair which was due to go down the tip, but have discovered that the padded seat and back cushions are full of great "stuffing" which is just the job for filling the sausages . I've just measured the door and sewn two long strips of fabric together, filled it then sewn up the ends. They look great (if I say so myself!)

Yep, pretty much it...You may want to take a reading over several days/weeks to get a proper picture of what your using.

How about setting up a carbon club on i-measure (www.imeasure.org.uk)?0 -
I take my gas and electric readings every few days now and work out what my average use is in kwh/per day over the present quarter compared to the last quarter. I am enjoying the challenge but then I am a capricorn! This thing started with me when I got my last bill and was flabbergasted and over the moon to find it was under £100. I wondered if I could do it again in spite of the price rise in april. It is a bit different to just reducing energy consumption
It has been very easy to tweak things and I may well come in under £100 this quarter but we`ll see. The next two quarters will be a different kettle of fish altogether as we can`t compare through different seasons.
Good luck to all on the challenge and don`t forget its a bit here and a bit there that adds up0
