I take my gas and electric readings every few days now and work out what my average use is in kwh/per day over the present quarter compared to the last quarter. I am enjoying the challenge but then I am a capricorn! This thing started with me when I got my last bill and was flabbergasted and over the moon to find it was under £100. I wondered if I could do it again in spite of the price rise in april. It is a bit different to just reducing energy consumption
It has been very easy to tweak things and I may well come in under £100 this quarter but we`ll see. The next two quarters will be a different kettle of fish altogether as we can`t compare through different seasons.
Good luck to all on the challenge and don`t forget its a bit here and a bit there that adds up

Hi
I have three suggestions -
1. expandable rod for the curtains can buy one in any local DIY or Wilkinson for only a few pounds, also try FREECYCLE in your local area, someone may have one they no longer use and get it for free.
2. If not, try some temporary hooks, also in your local DIY - they cost about £3 but use a special adhesive that when you go to remove them they don't leave any marks. I use them to hang robes and coats on the back of my doors.
3. Ask the landlord to install one! What the worse they can say NO, just let them know you are trying to save some money on the energy bill!

How about setting up a carbon club on i-measure (www.imeasure.org.uk)?
No sooner said than done, greenbee! I've set one up, it's called the "MoneySaving Carbon Club" and if you go to www.imeasure.org.uk , then click on Join a Club, you're in.
Is that ok?

and I've just found this on Maplin's site, 10 garden solar lights for £14.99 - on "Sale" until 02/09/08. I might be tempted, if only to keep the chooks laying longer, if I ever get any chooks! If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0

I have solar lights in my back yard, eight of them stuck in the plant pots.they've been there two years and we don't need our outside lights now as they give enough light on their own.0

You could try the Dervaes family website.:
www.pathtofreedom.com/
as they sell various similar type goods and see what they have and whether they will ship it to Britain.0 -
