thanks for that and all the advice. I have a wash in at the moment, then I'll put it on a hot wash with some vinegar.

  • Hello,

I got a bag full of baby clothes from freecycle and they smelled horrible. So I washed them and husband put them in the dryer. The wash couldn't eliminate the odour and I had to throw them out.

BUT NOW, my washing machine and tumble dryer stink. I washed the washing machine empty with white vinegar and had the tumble dryer run on a cycle with a tea towel soaked in lemon and clothes conditioner (lenor type thing). It still smells!

I am really upset about this, so any advice you have would be appreciated!!!!

    Hi snoogiewoogie,

Maybe some of the suggestions on these older threads might help to get rid of it:

What about bleach - let it fill then stop the washer. let it sit a while then turn it back on.

    Hi
What about Sodium Bicarbonate? I'd try a couple of tablespoonfuls added via soap dispenser.
    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.
  • I did a wash cycle in the washing machine with detergent and bleach in the conditioner compartment! Seemed to have worked.

I put some sodium bicarbonate in a sock and tied it and ran it for an hour in the dryer and the dryer is now smell free!

Thanks guys. Getting those baby clothes for free was just not worth all the hassle, upset and energy, water wasted. Have to learn with freecycle that when I go to pick up and I think I won't use it to just say no - even if it upsets people. Those clothes weren't fit for use and belong in a landfill.

Soda crystals work great. I now do a empty cycle every 4 months or so with a big scoop of soda crystals in the drawer and have eliminated smells and the grime n slime from detergent.
comes in a blue bag 1kg for about 50p, usually by stain removing products.
A good OS cleaner, unblocks sinks and drains, shifts heavy stains and contains no enzymes, phosphates or bleach

Where can you get soda crystals from?

I run my washing machine three or four times a day, three teenagers need I say more. The insdie of the drum gets a wipe with a damp cloth each time especially around the rubber, that gets very dirty. But the innards of the machine must be full of the slime that gets into the top of the drawer. I wash that out about once a week.

I suppose this is one of the things poepl never tell you about, washing machines getting dirty!
