Brown vinegar is fine, although I don't think I'd be wasting my best Balsamic on it. ;)

I use ordinary brown malt vinegar instead of fabric conditioner - so it will be fine. :)

    I'd recommend you...

    1. Clean all of it's filters (the obvious one on the front and they may be an extra one near the back).

    2. Use some soda crystals to clear out the limescale as that may be preventing water from draining away properly.

    3. Most importantly - use a biological powder for a little while - constant use of non-biological powders cause exactly the problem you are having.

Argh Mentat that all sounds a bit complicated for me!! But I'll try to give it a go :) Thanks for the replies both of ya!
  • Recently I have noticed an awful smell coming from my washing machine. I have cleaned out the powder drawer. It's not that. My washing smells fine but I think that the rubber seal on the machine is causing the smell. I'm not averse to cleaning it but want to make sure I don't make things worse or even damage the rubber seal. The seal itself is not damaged. I hope that one of you kind people will be able to help me out. Thank you in advance for any advice you may give.

    Hello floridadreamin

We keep the door open and pull the dispenser drawer slightly open too when the machine is not in use, to give a constant air flow through the machine. Our Zanussi washing machine is 11 years old and has never been smelly/mouldy or broken down.;)

    Regards

  • Thanks Nile, I do keep the door open when not in use but hadn't thought about the dispenser drawer.

  • Have you got anything behind the machine that is going off?
