  • hi, we had this problem and actually got so bad we called an engineer out as it was like the drains smell and nothing wrong with drains, the engineer told us that it was because we were using liquid gel and not powder, the liquid was building up into a horrible gloop and letting off a horrible smell behind the rubber seal, he told us to always use wash powder every so often as it cleans it and has a natural bleach in it that will keep the smell away
    hope this helps?

Also run the machine on a 60/90 wash with no clothes in it and no powder.

Maybe some soda crystals and that is.

To many people use low temps 40 and below for washing and it just does not get all the bits and bobs in a machine clean.

I run my on the hottest setting with nothing inside. I put some bleach in the soap powder drawer. This makes the door seal etc gleaming/fresh.

My in laws used to insist on washing everything on 30deg. They didn't seem to notice the state of the inside of the machine. I actually snuck in once when they were on hol and ran it on a 90 deg wash.

Our machine is a reconditioned one and that had the same kind of nasty smell described by the OP. It took several hot bleachy washes to totaly get rid of it. I find it helps to clean the rubber seal of the door. I use a dilute bleach spray. I also use that on the inside of the dispenser drawer. It's amazing that something that is meant to keep our clothing etc clean has so many nooks and crannies that breed germs. I find the conditioner compartment to be the worst probably because it never gets hot water through it.
Oh dear feel compelled to go and blitz it now.
BTW OP have you got a fluff filter?they can get blocked up quite quickly and could be responsible.
  • i have this problem too, so thanks for posting....io think i will try VODAKQUEENS suggestion...thanks!!

    So I did yuk!!!!!!!!
The machine used to be in the kitchen and I cleaned it fairly regularly but since we've moved it to the cellar its been out of sight out of mind and was beginig to breed quite a nice colony of slimey things in that little dispenser draw.

Thanks floridadreamin for starting this thread. I needed a kick up the backside to get me to clean my washing machine, and this has given me just that. Got some dirty doggie things to wash, and after they've been done, gonna do a hot wash with the bleach. Thank you everyone that has replied, I've picked up some great tips.

    Hi guys

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, I couldn't find it.

My washing machine really smells foul at the moment! The clothes come out smelling of mould even when I put fabric softener in. Any idea a) Why? b) How I can get rid of the smell OS style?

    Any ideas gratefully received!

  • run it through on a 90 degree wash with no soap in, just put in some vinegar for the rinse instead of conditioner, then when its finished leave the door open to let it air out. worked a treat with mine,
