    Hiya
Have also noticed that my shower head and taps get clogged up quickly with limescale and some black gunge...never had this problem in Norwich so it must be something to do with Suffolk!!!!
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

    Hi there Viv w
.....im in the wattisham airfield area of IPSWICH....and your right we are in a really hard water area.....limescale ARGHHHHHHH... get in plenty of cheap bottles of vinegar..it may save your sanity :-)
By the way are you using calgon...or something similar in your washing machine??? only we were warned when we moved in that in this area its a must!!!
If it makes you feel better i get that rotten black stuff in the shower head too EUGH... i take the head off every couple of weeks and sink it in a pot of vinegar.....Glad to say im off to Germany for 3 years at the end of the month..oooooohhhh lovely soft water i can drink straight from the tap...luxury...i have to filter it and then put it through the filter kettle to make a half decent cuppa..... typical though i have two 2.5kilo boxes of calgon powder unopened.....

do not use liquid washing 'powder' - it makes the machine smell as it clogs the pipes. our old machine was smelly and have had no problem since using washing powder only in the next machine (and that was 3 yrs ago). unfortunately can't say how to rid the smell you now have - but use powder from now on
  • I had this problem,I ran a hot wash with soda crystals but it made it worse and took about 10 washes for the smell to go! I phoned bosch and was told that by using a non biological detergent that it doesn't clean the pipes, so once or twice a month i now do a biological wash, and so far so good.

if the advice given doesn't work try this IT DOES WORK put a couple of milton tablets (sterilser tablets) in the drawer run an empty wash on the hottest cycle BUT don't forget to run another empty cycle afterwards and for extra caution make sure your next wash is lights. This advice was given to me by a washing machine fitter it also descales your pipes!!!

Make sure too that the discharge hose isn’t to far down the outlet pipe otherwise all the dirt in it will siphon into the machine and will make your clothes smell like sewerage. Make sure the person fitting your machine ties the pipe properly in the first place to prevent this happening.

Clothes still dirty after washing indicates the outlet pipe is kinked or blocked or the pump has packed up- it's making all the right noises but the waste water isn't getting away. Unclip the pump filter lid and clear out the old pennies and buttons. Lower the outlet pipe to a bowl on the floor and see what comes out. If it's grey smelly water, full of lint and gunge, I'm right.
If you use washing powder- as against liquids/gels in the tub, the dispenser drawer gets blocked with old powder residue, and it pongs. Needs clearing regularly.
