I hadn't thought about setting the timer to come on a bit later. I do run the machine now and again on the hottest setting with some soda crystals in and that does a good job, but the smell does build up again and think I'll try setting the timer for as late as I can get away with within the cheaper electricity time. I would suggest that you give the rubber door seal a good clean out. Water can sit in there, and I sometimes find it's really smelly if I haven't cleaned it for a while.:o
It's only a game

Get a pack of Service It (£2 in Asda recently, but that might have been a promotion price) and follow the instructions. It sorted our niffy washer problems out!
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

cheapest way to clean the machine - couple of cups of white vinegar poured into the drum - then put through hottest and longest cycle. empty of clothes of course!
also - is your outlet pipe properly situated? it may be letting back stagnant water
but - whenever i hear this prob - i always suspect the pump isnt working properly. which leaves water in the drum itself. when it gets bad you will notice that the bottom layer of washing is wet even when its been through spin cycle
try the vinegar hun - and do an empty wash now and then to clean the machine with a bit of vinegar added it works wonders.0 -
The low temperaures that we wash on now do not prevent mould and other mingy growths. Run the machine at least once a week on a 60C wash or higher.;)Preemie hats 9 :j0

rubber is perishable but try neat white vinegar then wipe off straight away with damp cloth and run an empty wash. or - sounds strange but white toothpaste rubbed on then wiped off with damp cloth. it depends on type of mould which suggestion will work hun.0

I have found baby sterilising fluid gets rid of mould. Well actually I heard about it in here, so I bought a bottle of Morrisons own brand and it works great. Cleaned the mould of the grouting and got it out of a pile of white clothes when nothing else would.
Not sure what it would do to rubber, but should be OK if you run a was straight after.
.Edit: Sorry, forgot to say it's not a magic bullet, you have to leave it one for a while.0 -
Afternoon all :j
First time poster here although I am ALWAYS over here picking up tips etc but I have a wee query which I wonder if anyone could help with.
The last few times I have pulled my clean washing out of the machine, the drum has smelt a bit 'foosty' (it's the only word I can think of!!)
It doesn't transfer on the clothes and they are lovely and clean so there is no issue there but it is about 6/7 years old so I am thinking that it maybe needs a wash through with something to freshen it up (much like a dishwasher) but have no idea what the 'something' would be.
Can anyone help?

Put it on the hottest setting it will go (95 or 100 if possible) dont put any clothes in it but throw a big handful of soda crystals or biological washing powder into the drum and run the wash.
The smell is caused by a buildup of bacteria and mold in the pipes due to using low temp washes frequently as neither these nor non-bio powders can kill the beasties0
