  • That wired/wireless comment is definately misleading because there is no difference between wired and wireless.

IIR UW rent out their routers, you return them at the end of your contract.

Wireless routers cost more than wired only, however I would think the difference is very small as most ISPs standard offering is a wireless router.

Why just assume the cash card will be used for business purposes even if the person is in business? The poster was just suggesting the cheapest way to 'qualify' for the cash card.

Over on the uw reps forum they were previously urged not to come here and post as "Carmine does it for us".

And some people question that Carmine doesn't come here anymore!

As you can get a decent wireless router for just £50 and Sky give there's away for free, that is quite honestly pathetic.

Why is there a difference between wired and wireless broadband prices?! That's a scam if ever I heard one and it's a disgrace they are charging different prices!
Why fixed line do internet providers have different tariffs? Why do mobile broadband providers have different tariffs? I presume you consider those to be a scam too.

If you don't like the goods or services at the prices offered, don't buy them. Simple.

No, that's how to make a larger profit. Your complaints are on a par with those of Cardew, Quentin & quentin.

Please explain which "complaints" you are on about?

Your arguments make no sense. Sky do different broadband rates because of the speed of the connection and download allowance. So do every other company, including UW. That is fair and reasonable.

What is not fair is charging more for wireless broadband. What cones through the phone line is identical and only the router (which most people buy themselves anyway) either provides the broadband connection via a Wireless network or using a wired Ethernet cable.

So there is no difference between wired and wireless broadband, so to me that is a scam to con customers (and UW reps it seems) who don't fully understand how Broadband works.

Looking at their packages on their website, the £19.99 package is for limited broadband with a 40 GB per month data allowance. The £24.99 package is for unlimited. They don't give you a wireless router on any of their packages, only a fixed wired router unless you pay them extra each month - £1 per month on the £24.99 package and £2 per month on the £19.99 package. Having not seen that earlier, it makes their package even more expensive!

I wouldn't dream of wasting my money with UW. However, there is no reason not to warn others of UWs high prices. After all, this is the UW thread on the Money Saving Experts forum. It's all about saving money if you hadn't noticed :)
