OK, so you want figures, here goes. Region is southern.
Gas consumption is 14881 kwh
Electricity consumption is 4843 kwh
Current annual OVO cost for gas £438 (£527.06 after renewal in March)
Current annual OVO cost for electricity £479.98 (£511.10 after renewal)
Current UW prices - gas £565.14 (standard user)
electricity £585.78 (standard user)
Just to add Scottish Power into the mix
Gas £459.79 (Online saver 12)
Elec £546.67 (Online saver 12)
So, how does UW look when compared to these real life prices?
Also to reply to your Sky not an entirely fair comparison claim, Sky are reported to have 10 million subscribers. That is 10 million households that the Sky offer is open to. To get the UW equivalent, you have to have 4 products. Therefore, you have to have your energy with UW to get the anytime calls so it is also not a level playing field!!!0 -
I think the point Penrhyn is making is that your phone/BB package is only available to Sky subscribers whereas UW's is available to anyone, irrespective of whether they subscribe to Sky or not? So not a fair comparison. It would be the same as saying the o2 phone/BB is cheaper but it's really dependent on also having an o2 mobile package. It's a conditional offer, in other words.
Edit: It would be like me stating UW's phone/BB package is by far the cheapest on the market (it is for me, but of course that's conditional on me using the cash card)0 -
Yes, I think so, OldGreyFox. It's 75p less than the phone line rental. Of course there would be the £1.50 club fee on top. £138/yr. £100/wk spend at Sainsburys/Asda would more or less cover the monthly cost of it. £60/wk at M&S would cover it.0

Ok, if you really want to get into a Sky vs non Sky issue, there is a £2.50 per month fee to pay on top if you aren't a Sky TV customer so Sky Phone and Broadband would be £26.25 per month without Sky TV. Still £1.75 per month cheaper than UW (with 1571 and caller display).0

And no minimum contract commitment? Is there a connection fee?
Edit: what happened to OldGreyFox's post?? He was asking if the £10 Sim only deal was the cheapest UW product in order to qualify for the cash back card but he would appear to have deleted his post before my reply went live. I wonder why? Makes my above post look very random...0 -
Yes, the £10 sim only deal is the cheapest residential service you can take to "qualify" for the cashback card. if you have a business (or are self employed as a sole trader), you can take an NGN (IE 0871 number) for £4 a month (including fee) and you can get a cashback card.
regarding the sky vs uw broadband question, the comparisons made thus far I assume are for wireless? you can have "wired" bb including line rental for £19.99 (plus the other charges mentioned) with uw.
with regards to gas and leccy, yes they are not the cheapest and its ridiculous if anyone is suggesting otherwise. for mobiles they are now truly outstanding with their new tarrifs, for everything else they're good in isolation (IE take 1 cheapish service to get the cashback card) or if you're a business.0 -
Why is there a difference between wired and wireless broadband prices?! That's a scam if ever I heard one and it's a disgrace they are charging different prices!0

UW reps don't bother with the detail - we see that time and again when they spam here.
Their customers are drawn from their friends and relatives who just don't expect that their rep (ie their friend/relative) would mislead them like this.
Cherrydvt uses this forum to mislead (and neglects to declare he is a uw rep when doing so)!
This is from the risky uw card's ts + cs:
We reserve the right not to pay any Cashback where we believe the Card has been used, wholly or partly, for business use0 -
Why just assume the cash card will be used for business purposes even if the person is in business? The poster was just suggesting the cheapest way to 'qualify' for the cash card.
PS LOL at 'risky' UW card when not long ago Quentin (and others) was recommending buying £100 of supermarket vouchers from the internet for £95 and having them delivered through the post*
* Royal Mail offer just ONE form of guaranteed residential post and that is Special Delivery. In this instance the postage would be at least £5.05. Hmmm....bargain.0
