Have you never managed to access 'private' forums?
A couple of years ago it was probably possible for anyone to say they were a UW distributor and thus join without checks.
Did it not occur to you that a 'retired' UW distributor might have given Quentin his user name and password? There are surely enough disgruntled ex UW salesmen.
Could it be this man?

You seem upset that their underhand/misleading/deceitful methods have been exposed?
And dunno why you now on a high horse about the exposures - when as already mentioned, it was you who introduced the topic today!

Just wondering, all you UW people, as this is the UW thread ... before moving supplier in my new place I had to give UW, the extant supplier, a £100 deposit as I didn't want to establish a DD for such a short period (c. 6 weeks).
I assume it is UW policy to automatically refund this once they've recieved my final bill (which they should have), or will I have to ask them for this?0 -

What did they tell you the £100 deposit was for? Were you moving from a pre-pay meter to a regular one? Why would you assume that this would be refunded? When you were on the phone with them, why didn't you ask?I am an Independent Financial AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as an Independent Financial Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I am also confused over this. The comment wasn't clear enough. He doesn't say whether he was moving into rented accommodation or living in rented accommodation or if the £100 was because he didn't want to pay by DD. If the latter, I think UW are quite at liberty to ask for some form of deposit. THey company had a number of bad payers a while back which could have caused massive problem. It has to be remembered that UW is still a very small company compared to say BT or BG.

Hi Dirty !!!!!!
It is a good idea to get in touch with them and confirm that they have calculated your "final" bill and find out how much they owe you and the method of repayment.

Thanks very much, Mike. I've already settled the final bill by cheque last week, so I am due to have entirety refunded.0 -

Hi,
When I moved into latest house (renting) they were the current supplier to the property and as I was already switching over and didn't want to establish a DD for the month or so (which was offered), I instead paid a £100 deposit over the phone by cc for the credit meter, which I was told would be refunded. I've since paid them the usage bills by cheque, so the deposit was just surety. I only asked here as to whether it was standard for them to just reimburse automatically and the time frame, or whether they usually required prompting.0 -

That's pretty much it. It was either pay the deposit, establish a DD, or they'd fit a ppm for gas if they didn't hear back.0
